Random Thoughts While Hospitalized (1 Viewer)

*When you are marked for d/c, why do they keep wanting to come in and do vitals? The bp cuff makes my arm about to 'splode. I'm outta here. Just waiting for the d/c nurse to officially sign me out and friend to pick me up. Leave. me. alone.

*Why do they change my bed sheets every time I'm gone long enough? I can understand once a day, but after many hours I finally figured out how to place 6 pillows just so so my ### and back don't hurt. I absolutely hate it when I get back from a scan to see my bed made up, flat, and a couple times, left with the usual 2 pillows! When you have massive head pain which requires Fiorinal and chest pain and can't breathe... I really Really REALLY am in no mood to start over again with the damn bed! :X

*Nurses: Each time you come in the room, please check to make sure the toilet has been flushed. There is nothing like going in to find roomie didn't flush. Ew. Luckily the visitors restrooms weren't too far off the path where pts can roam so I'd sneak in one.

Also charge nurse, please do not room a bedridden person with one that isn't and is high functioning. Sometimes I had the strength to escape out in the hall in time, but sometimes, not. And you just know it's time for roomie to go during meal times! :X

One more thing, nurses: please teach your peers how to turn off the bed from self adjusting every time you move. I worked very hard to get my bed positioned just so and next thing I know I'm slowly sinking! A couple of yous didn't know how to do it and another one said you can't. Yes you can. I've been here before and these beds are the same 50 years old ones so one thing to learn my friends..

*It would also be nice to have channels beyond 87, the hospital channel. You have CNN and even the junky E and Bravo but no MeTv for me to watch Carol Burnett show if I happen to be awake at 11:00 pm. I mean you figure unless you are highly medicated, who can sleep in the hospital?? So give us more channels. We don't need HBO but if you're going to give us some premium channels, why not all?? It's all part of the same cable package. :/

*I don't know about you, but when I can barely breath telling me I'm going to be ok isn't reassuring. The docs don't know if I'm going to be ok.. I know it's about being positive but this seems a bit patronizing in a way. Just weird.

*Finally, the food menu. While it's not bad, I find the same exact selections as I did 6 months ago. I know for the cafeteria they try new recipes so it's not always the same ole. They even have recipe contests and what's a hit is added to the rotation. Why not give us the same? I mean it all comes from the cafeteria.. :S

*One more thing, minor detail I know...............quit putting my slippers under the bed. I put them out in that spot for a reason and someone keeps neatly placing it further under. I sure don't feel like bending over digging for my slippers when I feel like utter ###### and can barely breathe. TIA.

My wife had many of these same issues this past week.

My pet peeve was her roommates visitors using the bathroom like it was grand central station.  The bathroom is for the patients, walk your self to the public restroom down the hall.  I will only use the bathroom in her room if she has a private room, or has no roommate, and then it's only to pee.

Curley,

I hope you are doing ok.  I really appreciated your words of wisdom and encouragement concerning the situation my wife and I are facing.

Thank you.

Oh yes, this too. Or they would forget that I'm behind the curtain by the window and will need to periodically leave my 'cell'. So I had to wait until 3 chairs in my path are cleared before I can get out. And bonus is when the occupants of said chairs are not in the room and all you get from the pt is sorry. Yeah, thanks.

I'm hanging in, I'm ok. Thanks for asking. I really feel for you and your wife. I can't imagine. I think of you guys along with Riley daily and pray all will be well with you all soon. You're a great husband, person. Give yourself a lot of credit if you don't. I look forward to great news from you soon. X
