Randy Moss = Distraction to other teams Defense (1 Viewer)

I watched the 1st half of the Pats game this week (3rd pre-season game against Car)... and it was clear that they do not need Moss at all. Which leads me to the conclusion that Randy Moss will be nothing more than a distraction to the other teams Defense. I do not believe he will get over 1000 yds and 8 TDs; his role on the team will be to spread the DBs and keep them honest as Brady works his magic inside.

Presonal, after watching that game, Watson, Maroney, and even Welker got big bumps on my board.

1000 and 8 is a distraction?
Yes... when people are taking him around where TO gets taken... I could see 8 TDs, but I don't see how he'll get 1000 yds.
hi. i don't know what scoring your league has, but in standard scoring leagues (with or without PPR) moss is going 1.5-2 rounds after TO.
Yeah, I don't know what leagues he's in, but I haven't seen a single league (and I am in a bunch) where Moss went anywhere near TO or any of the top WRs. He goes in the 3rd, or more likely 4th round...Anywho.. a distraction? Of course he will be. His sheer potential means teams cannot ignore him. Even if he isn't the Randy Moss of old...

I have seen it a couple of times.... usually TO is taken in the 3rd to end the Top Tier WR picks, then the Moss pick starts that TJ / Plax / Evans / 2nd Tier WRs... Which to me is too high. I have Moss placed with S Moss / Coles / R Brown Tier.

Moss is going in the 4th-5th rd in every league I'm in so far. TO is going early 2nd, or late 2nd at the worst. He lead the league in TD catches last year!

Moss' career pretty much says the guy has an enormous window for his stats- probably could make an argument for anywhere from 500-1500 yards for him. Good luck predicting that.

I will say re OP, I am extremely confident he will be out there just to draw attention on some plays. That's good coaching and as you saw a couple nights ago, if done quickly the D may not have all their matchups+double-teams planned out pre-snap and a guy like Rivers will be left all alone. That was such an easy TD for Rivers and Brady. Moss didn't play, but I'm confident that will be a play they use with him there, why it's in the playbook etc. That was so easy.

We all know 1,000 isn't THAT much in a 16 game season. 62.5 yards per game... The only real barrier to that level is staying on the field. The diverse NE offense is tough to predict.. not just for us but for opposing defenses. Is that good or bad for Moss' individual stats? If he is healthy, I think it will be very good. Defenses won't be able to key on him... does he see single coverage? The Patriots are able to exploit the strength's of their personnel and can vary their game plan accordingly.Looking back at last season, it seemed that almost every game a bomb went through the hands of Chad Jackson. A few long balls do wonders for fantasy numbers. NE does spread the ball around but they will use a "go-to" guy if he is making plays. During the playoff run last year, Jabar Gaffney had games with 8 and 10 receptions. Over the regular season, Brady put the ball in the air 32+ times per game.In 2005, Branch's last season as the #1, he caught 78 balls for 998 and 5 TDs, while starting 15 games. A better red zone option, Can Moss put up 80-1200 and 10 TDs? Easy numbers for the Randy Moss of old. Contract wise, he should be hungry and motivated. NE was probably one of the top 2 or 3 places he could have landed; A well coached, competitive team; strong offense, very good QB. Personally, I find Moss in the NE offense to be one of the biggest intrigues entering the season.

I haven't seen TO later than round 2 in any of my drafts, and most are mid round 2.

I think everyone is forgetting what Randy Moss was like when he had a good, healthy QB throwing him the ball. Tom Brady is going to revitalize his career. I think Moss could end up being the best value at the WR position this year assuming he stays healthy. I mean really, C-Pep sucked that last year he was in Minny, and the Raiders QBs? BLAH. Now he's got freakin Tom Brady. I think he'll return to greatness. And for the record, I only have him in 10% of my total leagues. :moneybag:

:link: Based on what I saw early in camp before he got hurt, Moss would be MUCH more than a distraction ... if he is healthy. That said, draft/bid accordingly.

I drafted Randy at 6.03 in a 12 team league last night. Beyond qb's being a little more valued than normal leagues, Moss fell pretty far.

0.1 point per pass yard,

3 pts per td pass,

0.1 point per yard rsh/rec,

6 pts. per rs/rec td.

Randy Moss was the 22nd receiver drafted. I had him ranked at WR17.

Needless to say, I took him.
