Footballguy
a. 66-67 Packers

b. 72-73 Dolphins

c. 74-75 Steelers

d. 78-79 Steelers

e. 88-89 49ers

f. 92-93 Cowboys

g. 97-98 Broncos

h. 03-04 Patriots

Rank those teams. And where would the 07-08 Giants fit in should they repeat?

I believe Mike Shanahan is the first head coach to win back-to-back Super Bowls to get fired.

And where would the 07-08 Giants fit in should they repeat?
It's hard to say until we see the quality of the Giants' opponents should they repeat. All I know is last year's feat was very impressive. Bucs, Cowboys, Packers (all away games) and then the undefeated Patriots. Brutal playoff schedule and they cleaned house.

Once they win we can talk about this.

Like players, it's hard to compare teams from different eras. Also, as someone has already mentioned the FA era has changed the dynamic of the league from a "dynasty" oriented league to a "parity" league making what the Pats accomplished over the past few years all the more impressive.

Based on winning % . . .

c. 74-75 Steelers 28-5-1 .838

f. 92-93 Cowboys 31-7-0 .816

a. 66-67 Packers 25-6-1 .797

e. 88-89 49ers 30-8-0 .789

Nice break down. It's easy to forget that despite a very impressive play-off run the GMen lost 6 games last year and, in another era, may have missed the play-offs entirely.

And the winning % of their opponents?

Pre-salary cap era:

Tier I:

72-73 Dolphins

74-75 Steelers

Tier II:

88-89 49ers

92-93 Cowboys

78-79 Steelers

Salary cap era:

Tier I:

03-04 Patriots

Tier II:

97-98 Broncos

08-09 Giants(?)

Comparing back to back winners from the different eras is (very) subjective.

I believe your question is moot, however, as I expect the Panthers to beat the Giants.

edit: I don't have any frame of reference on the 60s packers, so I left them out.

So after declaring the Giants the worse Super Bowl winner last year, the Shark Pool is gearing up to declare them the worst repeat winners this year.

If they win, I look forward to next year, and the debate about whether they are the worst dynasty ever.

The reason they wouldn't have ranked very high on this list is the same reason they didn't even get to make this list: Eli.

Good thing we won't have to debate this.
i agree, but they would've been at the bottom of the list.last year was a historically lucky run. just so improbable.. it took me 10 months to get over how disgusted i was before i could start watching football again in late November

Apparently I gave both teams too much credit.

This year's Giants are right up there with last year's Patriots IMO.-QG
Nope. Patriots won more games and didn't have any firearms arrests.I could go on but these are the two most noteable differences.Sorry about your luck Giants fans. Better luck next year.
Other differences: Patriots were fined more often for cheating and had more players suspending for being on the juice.Best luck to your Pats next year as well! :own3d:
