Not if he doesn't cut down on the strikeouts and stop valuing his daddy's advice over his manager's.Wouldn't be surprised if he is an All-Star within 2 years. Year to adjust to the league. Don't see much downside for Toronto. He'll hit. Could be a star.

LaRussa and Rasmus' poppa didn't get along.LinkWhat was he doing that was so terrible, as far as his attitude and relationship with LaRussa?
Three of the four are free agents at the end of the seasonFrom what I have seen, he is just an adequate CF. He is terribly inconsistent as a hitter as well. He does have a lot of talent, and may improve, but who knows. All I know is the Cards really needed to upgrade their pitching staff and they did it. They really only gave up Rasmus and got 4 very serviceable players in return.
And two of the three (Jackson and MAYBE Dotel) will get the Cards a bunch of draft picks so they can draft more Rasmuses.Three of the four are free agents at the end of the seasonFrom what I have seen, he is just an adequate CF. Jackson will probably be Class B so they'll get one sandwich pick for that.Free agent classification of relief pitchers is very strange. But for the Cards to be eligible for any compensation pick for Dotel, they'll have to buy out his option year for $750K and offer him arbitration at a minimum of $2.2M. This would be crazy for a 38 year old pitcher.Patterson will be a Class Z free agent like he is every year. They won't get a bunch of picks. And two of the three (Jackson and MAYBE Dotel) will get the Cards a bunch of draft picks so they can draft more Rasmuses.Three of the four are free agents at the end of the seasonFrom what I have seen, he is just an adequate CF. 20% strikeout this year, down from 27%. Very reasonable given his power and walk numbers. He is a mess in CF, though. Much better suited to a corner. Not if he doesn't cut down on the strikeouts and stop valuing his daddy's advice over his manager's.Wouldn't be surprised if he is an All-Star within 2 years. More often than not, players that the Cardinals have traded for who are about to become free agents, stay in St. Louis when the Cardinals are interested. But, the Cardinals made this trade to win now. They only gave up Rasmus who is a proven everyday player, but that is it. I think it is worth the gamble.Three of the four are free agents at the end of the seasonFrom what I have seen, he is just an adequate CF. He is terribly inconsistent as a hitter as well. Even if Rasmus is merely an everyday player, he's still the best position prospect the Cards have drafted since Pujols. The front office chose an 80 million year old *genius* over a 24 year old talent under cost control for 3 or 4 more years. The only way this trade makes any sense is if they win it all this year - flags fly forever. But that isn't exactly a good bet.And two of the three (Jackson and MAYBE Dotel) will get the Cards a bunch of draft picks so they can draft more Rasmuses.Three of the four are free agents at the end of the seasonFrom what I have seen, he is just an adequate CF. So, you think it is better to save money for the next 3-4 years than try to win it all this year?Even if Rasmus is merely an everyday player, he's still the best position prospect the Cards have drafted since Pujols. I think trading away the prime years of a promising player to upgrade your crappy 5th starter, and to add 2 bullpen arms to your 14 man pitching staff is a steep price to pay. But you knew Rasmus was gone as soon as they broguht LaRussa back. Its not like this is the first player he's run out of town. So, you think it is better to save money for the next 3-4 years than try to win it all this year?Even if Rasmus is merely an everyday player, he's still the best position prospect the Cards have drafted since Pujols.
