Just drafted from the 8 spot in a 12 team mixed POINTS LEAGUE draft (no categories, scoring is below). I had the 3rd and 22nd pick in the first two rounds due to a draft day trade.

Here is my team:

C: None, need to add one before the season. (Took Carpenter as a DL stash instead because there wasnt much left)

1B: Todd Helton

2B: Ian Kinsler

3B: Alex Gordon

SS: Jose Reyes

OF: Ichiro

OF: Torii Hunter

OF: Josh Hamilton

Util: Carlos Guillen (SS/1B)

Bench: Dye, Ibanez, , Troy Glaus (low BA doesnt hurt as much in a points league)

SP: Verlander

SP: Smoltz

SP: Harang

SP: Penny

SP: Snell

RP: KRod

RP: Borowoski

P: Gregg

P: Howry

DL: Carpenter

My strategy was this...

1) Since there are no categories, go after CONSISTENT points (Reyes, Ichiro, Helton)

2) Pitchers are very valuable, especially for IP and Wins. (Verlander, Smoltz, Penny)

3) Pitchers who go deep into games for CG and SHO are gravy (Harang)

4) Take a few players with big upside (Hamilton, Kinsler, Gordon, Snell)

5) Take a chance on a few bounceback veterans (Dye, Glaus)

6) Get flexible position players, to pick up extra points on days off (Guillen & Gordon's flexibility allow me to cover everything but C & 2B)

If this were a 5x5 I would be very worried about power, but in this type of league it doesnt matter if everyone steals, hits, or mashes their way to first... total production wins.

Thoughts? Comments?

Here is the scoring:

Hitters: AB (-.25), R (1), H (1), RBI (1), SB (2), CS (-1), BB (1), HBP (1), K (-.5), TB (1),

Pitchers: IP (2.1), W (11.5), L (-4), CG (10), SHO (10), SV (11.5), ER (-2), K (.75), HLD (11), BSV (-4.5)

I like your pitching, but you are totally incorrect about not being worried about "power"...in a points format home runs are king ( minimum 6 points for one swing of the bat) whereas a player like reyes, as great as he is, needs a single or walk, 2 stolen bases and a run to equal that one swing. Your hitting appears very questionable to me without a proven slugger among them. From the 8 spot, you obviously took reyes but you needed a bonafide power hitter in the 2d round which you obviously didnt get, when i am sure that one was available.

I've been playing toatal points leagues for 11 years and know that a team of banjo hitters gets you nowhere. Sorry.

SP: Smoltz

SP: Harang

RP: KRod
