Rating Players in last few rounds (1 Viewer)

I've been giving this some thought.  Is there any consideration to the concept that the last few guys in your draft and on your bench are likely to not be used much in your everyday lineup?  And that perhaps there should be additional valuation for the concept tof a player who with opportunity could earn far above his draft day projection?

For example, If Elliot were injured McFadden could vault to serious value.  But his projections show little value as of draft day.  While Theo Riddick shows value on draft day but will never be a full time RB1.

IS there some way to consider this type of thing in DD or is it simply "I have to learn who the potential star replacements are" and ignore the middle value tier players in favor of the roll if the dice guys.

And I admit my examples may be poor but I hope I got the concept across.  Appreciate opinions on this.

Yes, it is a not uncommon draft tactic to draft for projected production in early rounds, and draft for potential later.  I suggest a mix of potential and projectability.  You will want some Riddicks on your team to fill in during bye weeks and for injured starters...no guarantee that your specific McFadden type is getting play when those roll around.

But once you've secured some reliable backups, going with upside makes sense.  Just realize those will also be the guys you likely cut if you spot good waiver targets early in season, or need to react to injuries at a position.

Thanks Arodin.  Yeah I understand I might rotate through a lot of "potentials" as the season wears on and these are first cuts.  I just wonder if the DD system recognizes in the last few rounds you are shooting for a bullseye at hidden targets.

I don't think the DD really takes that into consideration.  This is where you need to have some instincts and prep prior to the draft and not always follow any tool blindly.  The fun of fantasy football is coming up with your own rankings and thoughts on players and putting your knowledge to the test.  Blindly using a tool to draft for you takes a lot of the fun out of it for me.

The end of any draft is all about a dart through anyway.  As was mentioned earlier, these guys will most likely be dropped as players emerge on the waiver wire with value.  Do your research and use the tools as guidelines but in the end take the player you think works best for your situation.  Just have fun with it.

Thanks Gally.  I think the tool will be of most value to me in the middle rounds.  I admit I can not keep in my memory which of the 50-120 players are more valuable and there I will likely use it heavily.  Early and late I will likely follow my instincts more as I target early guys and take flyers late.  I can't wait for the 2017 DD to come out and try it in some mock drafts.  Now if only my competitors would let me have a draft like the one I had last week (mock) where I got D Johnson, J Ajayi and L Miller at RB.  Sign me up.
