Ray Rice Injury Thread.... (1 Viewer)

Rice officially listed as DOUBTFUL.

Ray Rice (hip) is listed as doubtful for Week 3 versus Houston.
The doubtful designation officially means the Ravens believe Rice's chances of playing Sunday are 25 percent or worse. They previously stated he'd be a game-time decision, but the odds are heavily against Rice dressing against the Texans. Appearing on ESPN's NFL Insiders Friday, John Clayton suggested it would be a "miracle" if Rice played. Expect Bernard Pierce to flirt with 20-plus touches in an average to above-average matchup.

Ray Rice believed to have two-week injury Sat Sep 21, 12:32 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) may sit out the next two weeks to make sure his hip injury has time to heal. RB Bernard Pierce is expected to start while Rice is out of the lineup.

Great...as if it wasn't bad enough for Rice owners, now Pierce will get time to cement himself as worthy of even more touches when Rice comes back. Full-blown time share as some dooms day predictions forcast.

The coaches knew exactly what he was capable of before this. If Rice is anywhere near 100% going forward, I can't see a true 50/50 spilt.

(I own neither of them)

I agree with you...and I have Pierce.

I don't see him as any real threat to Rice.

It was never a 50/50 and won't be as long as RR is healthy. The rushing splits will be near 50/50 again, but the vast majority of catches and goal line opps will reside with Rice, as it did earlier this season and the 2nd half of last year. That is clearly how the Ravens want to play this situation.

I'm hearing a lot of places reporting that this is possibly a multi-week injury. A hip flexor strain can be a multi-week injury however I'm still quite confused as to why he didn't get a MRI.

A hip flexor has three degrees--if it is third degree there is actually a tear and recovery can be 4-6 weeks. It isn't that bad, which is why no MRI. Hence, he will be back in a week.

I'm aware. I actually just read that a hip flexor strain is regarded as a "tear" regardless of the severity (grade) so I suppose an MRI is useless. One would know right away if it were a partial tear versus a full rupture.

I do however believe it's grade 2 strain (most common one) with the most recent news regarding the injury.

A source tells the Baltimore Sun that Ray Rice's hip flexor strain is regarded as a two-week injury.
Rice is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Texans, leaving Bernard Pierce as a very solid RB2 play. Per beat writer Aaron Wilson, Rice's two-week timetable is "on the safe side." For now, we can consider him questionable for a Week 4 game at Buffalo.

Personally, I was shocked Rice was ever in consideration for playing this week. Like you, I thought hip flexor was ALWAYS a multi-week injury. This is the first time I recall people talking about a guy playing the week following this injury.

I seriously doubt he was ever considered in the first place. don't believe all the bs these teams throw out there. a guy goes down like that untouched something's wrong. they don't end up fine all of a sudden. certainly not a week later.

bump for this week, early reports on Rice are positive:

Ray Rice expects to play Week 4 Wed Sep 25, 12:52 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) said he will participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 25, and expects to play Week 4.

I still like Pierce vs. BUF this week even if Rice suits up. I think both could technically be productive.
I was thinking the same thing.

Rice owners have to consider themselves lucky after how he went down if he plays this week
Yeah, although the timetable for recovery would fall right in line with that of a grade 2 sprain. It seems like the "best case scenario" but in all honesty was the most likely scenario all along (as grade 2 sprains are the most common).

BAL may want to hold him out for precautionary reasons (much like Bush last week) but that's it. Pierce owners should probably look to move him to Rice owners in a package deal if possible.

Considering rolling both out on Sunday if Rice is probable, but I would be starting one of them over MJD against BUF, which is questionable.

Will try to trade Pierce for Wilson.

I don't think this game will be very close and as soon as it gets out of hand, there is no reason for them to play Rice. Just my opinion. If I own Pierce, I'd feel comfortable rolling with him. If I own Rice, I'm not feeling comfortable.

I hope they sit Rice again as it will be simpler and easier to be honest. But if he practices fully on Wednesday or Thursday I will probably start him with reluctance.
