RB Adrian "All Day" Peterson if Farve a Viking (1 Viewer)

I noticed a comment about uptick for WRs if Farve came to Viking town.

IMO, Adrian Peterson gets the biggest upgrade.

Daring Tavaris to beat you and Farve to beat you is two different situations.

If you sell out the run, the vet's going to destroy you.

You have to cover and hope for some picks.

The stage would be set.

A sports radio station out of Milwaukee, WSSP, is reporting on its website that the Vikings “already have inquired about signing [brett] Favre, pending his release from the Packers.” (Technically, the Vikings would have had to call the Packers because Favre is under contract to the team.)

While Minnesota certainly could have interest in Favre the problem is that there is no indication the Packers are going to grant Favre his wish and release him. That means the only option for Favre to get to the Vikings would be via a trade and Packers General Manager Ted Thompson isn’t about to deal the future Hall of Fame quarterback to an arch-rival in the same division.

All of that being said, there are a couple reasons why Favre might want to end up in Minnesota. He remains very close to Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who served as his quarterbacks coach at one point in Green Bay. Favre also would be stepping into a version of the West Coast offense that is very similar to what the Packers ran under former coach Mike Sherman.

This means if the Vikings could get Favre — and, to repeat, that appears to be a huge long shot — they could plug him into the offense very quickly and the fact he missed all of the offseason workouts wouldn’t be that big of deal.

As a Viking fan, I hope its not true, Favre should just return to Green Bay, we really don't need to pay him for three years.

I'm not so sure about that. The Vikings are a run-heavy team. With Favre as the qb this would almost certainly change. AD already only gets a certain amount of carries due to Chester Taylor being around. The team would end up running the ball less and that means less attempts which means less yards which means less fantasy points. That might be made up some with more red-zone opportunities leading to more touchdowns but Peterson averaged nearly a TD per game last season so it wasn't like he was lacking in the scoring department.

Overall I don't think the arrival of Favre or any good qb would help Peterson become more of a stud than he already is. Especially if the quarterback will cause him to receive less opportunities to have the ball in his hands.

Sidney Rice is the guy who would really rocket up my board if Favre went to the Vikes. He could be another Javon Walker.

A legit QB would help ADP, but he's already a top 4 pick in every league. There's not much room for him to move up.

While true about the run-heavy nature and limited carries, I think the fact that defenses won't be able to cheat the run on certain down and distance situations that they can do against Jackson, who even as recently as late last year, was limiting himself to scanning only a quadrant of the football field. Favre will be able to read the defense more effectively and has seen just about everything from a defense that can possibly be thrown at him at least a dozen times. Jackson has probably seen 3/4 of what Favre has seen in his career only once...That will make the running game more dangerous and while the rate of attempts per game may not go drastically higher, the yards per carry could remain the same for AD, and he could wind up with more red zone carries because of the enhanced passing game. We also need to remember that Favre won't have had a ton of time to study the offense, so like Steve McNair in Baltimore two years ago, Favre may be a 80% of his ceiling as he learns the offense. Still very good for Minny...
