Rookie third-round pick Brian Calhoun, who was No. 3 in minicamp, was working with the second unit in both the 9-on-7 and team drills. Arlen Harris is No. 3 and Artose Pinner (who made some nice runs in his limited role) is No. 4.
I own both KJ and Calhoun, and I'm very glad. Calhoun will compete for the job, especially in that offense, and so KJ really has to produce. It's now or never for him.
Id say all that has to happen for Calhoun to become the starter is for Jones to play like he did last year, in that case I'd say about 50%-70% that Jones repeats from last season
Well, Calhoun's leapfrogging of Pinner and Bryson is no small matter. They were Millen's love slaves last year. For a rookie to beat them out before training camp begins speaks volumes about what the coaching staff thinks about him. With KJ's status very much in question, Calhoun could have massive upside in that system. He's such a stallion in terms of his receiving ability that he would thrive, but he does need to work on his blocking.
Calhoun is a guy that could be a real steal. Jones has all the talent to be a beast in Martz offense but Calhoun has the kind of talent and ability to keep Jones off the field. A story to watch for sure.
(KFFL) Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Arlen Harris was back in the No. 2 role during the morning practice Saturday, July 29. RB Brian Calhoun served as the No. 3 running back.
