RB Carlos Hyde, JAC (3 Viewers)

NFL Network's Mike Silver reports the Seahawks have had conversations with free agent RB Carlos Hyde.

The Seahawks have reportedly had discussions with both Marshawn Lynch and Hyde all the while extending a (declined) one-year, $4 million contract to Devonta Freeman. Seattle has made it clear they would prefer a dusty veteran backing up Chris Carson while Rashaad Penny (ACL) is shelved, and it's only a matter of time until one eventually puts pen to paper. Whoever loses out will immediately become the favorite to join the Eagles as their goal-line thumper.

Seahawks signed RB Carlos Hyde, formerly of the Texans, to a one-year contract.

The Seahawks had made it well known they were hunting for a veteran runner to add to a backfield with a rehabbing Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny, and they apparently decided to act on Hyde after Devonta Freeman wasn't interested in their asking price. The definition of a replacement-level runner at this stage of his career, Hyde should not end up more than an insurance policy as the Seahawks wait on Carson and Penny. Carson is expected to be ready for Week 1, though Penny is a candidate for the reserve/PUP list. 2020 will be Hyde's age-30 campaign. From a Dynasty league perspective, he is an injury hedge you stash with the knowledge you will likely be cutting him in August.

NFL Network's Mike Silver reports new Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde is recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Hyde apparently played through the injury last regular season before aggravating it in the Texans' Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs. It's a serious operation with a lengthy rehab, making Hyde doubtful for the beginning of training camp. Seeing as he was signed as an injury hedge to Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny, however, the Seahawks are likely comfortable that he will be ready for Week 1.

They've got him at high RB3, along with Mostert for company. I'll be stunned if he has the year Mostert does, but thrilled if Hyde can work his way to RB3 status.
In Seattle, if he somehow becomes the lead back, he's a strong rb2.  He's a guy you draft after you've gotten your core, as a "if things break right, this could help win the league" but understand things probably don't break "right".

Yep. That's about right for redraft. I inherited him on my dynasty squad, that's why I'm interested. We have huge rosters, so I held him. If things break right, that'll help out a hurting squad that I have.

Russell Wilson is as efficient as they come, but Seahawks aren't in same league as NFL's top offenses

Excerpt:

The Seahawks added Carlos Hyde — who had a resurgent 2019 — to their backfield. Do you still buy Chris Carson, coming off an injury, as the RB1, or is this a backfield to be wary of?

Scott: Hyde’s been a little underrated for years; when the fantasy community figured out he would never be truly great, it at times overlooked that he was still capable. Hyde looks like one of those understudy RB picks who could have just enough weekly work to carry standalone value. He’s not necessarily a proactive pick for me at the table, but I’ve become more Hyde-friendly in recent weeks. And like most featured backs, Carson is likely to miss time, perhaps multiple games. That’s just a fact of life for a running back in today’s NFL.

Liz: I’m not sure how many times Pete Carroll has to prove his allegiance to Carson, but maybe the third consecutive season is the charm. While it’s true that Carson’s 2019 campaign ended prematurely due to a hip injury, the Oklahoma State product is expected to be ready for Week 1. It’s being reported, however, that his backfield mate Rashad Penny - who sustained an ACL tear in December of last year - is likely to start the season on the PUP list.

The signing of Carlos Hyde - who underwent shoulder surgery in February - seems more like insurance for Penny than a legitimate threat to Carson’s role as the team’s RB1. Carson has been a beast over the past two seasons, averaging over 17 attempts and 4.5 YPC per game. He’s my RB16, which is, coincidentally exactly where he’s being drafted.

Andy: Well, the reason to be wary is that both Carson and Penny are coming off significant injuries. Hyde changed the trajectory of his career last season in Houston, but it’s pretty clear he wasn’t brought to Seattle to challenge for the lead role. Assuming Carson’s hip is in good shape at the start of the season, he’s at the top of this team’s backfield depth chart. He’s coming off a terrific 2019, having rushed for a career-high 1,230 yards (4.4 YPC) while hauling in 37 receptions and scoring nine TDs. He’s excellent. Hyde should be viewed as a rotational runner and understudy. In a year in which depth is key, there’s no question he was a smart addition to the roster.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Carlos Hyde will be a "big factor for us."

Hyde reportedly had a strong scrimmage with starting running back Chris Carson watching on the sideline. At this point, Hyde has established himself as the No. 2 back in Seattle, particularly with Rashaad Penny still working his way back to full health. Expect Hyde to be the insurance to Carson as an early-down grinder with rookie DeeJay Dallas occasionally chipping in on passing downs. Carson should be an RB2 if healthy.

Carlos Hyde rushed seven times for 23 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' Week 1 win over the Falcons.

Hyde actually out-carried Chris Carson 7-6, but Carson won the touch battle 12-7. Hyde's carries were not solely because of garbage time, but the carry split still felt somewhat random. We would not expect it to remain a theme vs. the Patriots in Week 2. This is still Carson's backfield, something that's even more true as the Seahawks seemingly gravitate toward a more pass-happy offense. That has never been Hyde's forte. He is not a viable FLEX.

Worth a flyer now that Chris Carson's injury is deemed to be minor and may or may not sit for week 4. Seems they will at least take it easy on Carson for this game, which could mean one decent game to play Hyde. What do you think?

No reason to spend that much FAAB money after all. Someone prolly will over spend. It depends upon urgency for this week.

Hyde 75 total yards and .5 TD chance?

Probably a 70-30 Hyde/Homer split?
That's something where we don't know that yet. Homer was taking the carries with Carson out and catches the ball out of the backfield, unlike Hyde, who is pretty much a straight away type guy. Not much dazzle or sizzle to Hyde's game, but effective if you ask him to do that which he can. The Hawks have thrown a ton this year, and I don't see that changing, which means Homer is the more beneficial back to have in there. I roster Hyde, but would guess that it's a 60/40 or 55/45 split at best.

hmm - I was trying to get Carson - but maybe the Shark move is to sell Hyde to that owner

I honestly don't know. Just as someone who has kind of (and I stress kind of) followed the situation by the weeks with an eye towards maybe starting Hyde in desperation in something happens, Homer has gotten eight carries total. Hyde has sixteen. So I'm not sure what to do with that. The carries have been 7-5-4 for Hyde and 3-3-2 for Homer. Really, Carson is the bell cow in this backfield and we don't know much else. Hyde may dominate carries. I don't really know. Just seems game script dependent for Hyde to step in and carry the ball fifteen times. I'd guess less, but I've certainly been wrong before. The situation is...in flux.

I don't think Carroll is ready to trust the rookie yet, but I could see DeeJay Dallas being activated on Sunday and maybe getting a few looks to see what he can do. He was one of the stars of training camp, but obviously that was different than facing a real life defense.

I think it was reported last night on MNF that Carson will miss 1-2 weeks. Not sure how accurate that Report was
That’s what they had on the ESPN crawler all day, but I searched and searched and searched and found nothing to substantiate it in the news. The last three updates for Carson were very optimistic and positive. They called it in “mild grade one strain“ of his Kneee, and Pete Carroll said there was some optimism that he wouldn’t miss a week.

so I’m not sure where ESPN got there 1 to 2 week estimation. certainly wasn’t from the Seahawks.

luckily, I have hired if it price to be correct, but that’s certainly a downgrade from Carson.

Just traded for Carson now wondering how much of a demand it will be for Hyde on the waiver wire and how much to spend for the insurance. Seems others would shy away with news that Carson could play and his injury is minor? Or desperate owners looking for one week or two weeks and possible re-injury, etc. I just don't see a high demand for Hyde as of now, but he was hyped up earlier on the NFL channel.

Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde (shoulder) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Chris Carson (knee) avoided a major injury against Dallas and also practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday, so it looks like Hyde won't get a spot start in Week 4 against Miami. Fantasy managers should watch Carson's and Hyde's practice participation closely over the next couple days.

Carlos Hyde (shoulder) is inactive for Week 4 against the Dolphins.

It initially looked like the Seahawks would be without Chris Carson (knee) and featuring Hyde against the Dolphins. Instead, it is the opposite, leaving Travis Homer as the No. 2 back and DeeJay Dallas as the No. 3. Hyde seemed close to suiting up and should be ready to return in Week 5.

Carlos Hyde rushed 15 times for 68 yards and a touchdown in Week 7 against the Cardinals.

Hyde took over late in the second quarter after Chris Caron left with a foot injury. He averaged 4.5 YPC and scored on a 20-plus yard run, but ceded pass down work to Travis Homer and DJ Dallas. Carson was seen walking around the sidelines, so it’s possible he returns next week. If not, Hyde would be a plug-in RB2.

We'll see how severe Carson's injury is, if at all, but Hyde looked good in relief.

Not sure when Penny returns, but could see Carroll working Hyde in more and more just to save Carson from the beating from now through the back half of the season.

They said its a mid-foot sprain for Carson. Still need to see how bad of one it is, but it'd be really surprising if he didn't miss at least 1 week. Mid-foot sprains typically are 1-2 weeks for a grade 1, and as much as 6 weeks for a grade 2.

Carson sprained a knee a few weeks back and it went from being a likely 2 week absence (us mere mortals would have had our feet up for weeks) to him not even missing a game. If the foot injury keeps him out, it must be borderline hanging off, the dude is nails.

Nothing against Hyde, but the AZ defense is pretty awful. Next Seattle plays SF, who hasn't given up a 100 yard rusher all season

Guess we better slow our roll a bit.

Hyde suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Cardinals, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Analysis: Hyde took over as Seattle's lead back after Chris Carson sprained his foot in the second quarter, but coach Pete Carroll revealed Monday that Hyde picked up an injury as well. The Seahawks' top three running backs are now battling injuries after Travis Homer suffered a knee contusion during the divisional tilt, leaving rookie DeeJay Dallas as the only healthy remaining back. Homer's status is unclear, Carson is week-to-week, and Hyde's status isn't favorable because of the soft-tissue nature of his injury. We'll have a better idea of the trio's respective statuses once practices start up Wednesday. If they're all ruled out for Sunday's game versus the 49ers, Dallas likely would lead the backfield because Rashaad Penny (knee) isn't expected to be ready in time. Patrick Carr is on the practice squad and may be an option, and Marshawn Lynch's name could be floated under these circumstances as well.

Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde is dealing with hamstring tightness and is uncertain to play Week 8 against the 49ers.

Hyde joins Seattle's backfield injury report with Chris Carson, who's week to week with a mid-foot sprain, and Travis Homer, who has a bruised knee. That leaves rookie DeeJay Dallas as the only healthy running back on the roster. Rashaad Penny is recovering from a knee injury and won't be available anytime soon. The Seahawks may be unable to bring in running back reinforcements in time to play the Niners, thanks to COVID-19 testing protocols for incoming players. Dallas could be the default workhorse back for Seattle in Week 8. He should be picked up in all leagues.

Ugh, have a pretty high waiver priority that I would like to use on a RB like Hyde, but don't like the sound of this hamstring issue. Would hate to use it only to have him sit in week 8. But would also hate to use it on DeeJay Dallas who would only be useful for 1 week, or not at all!

Homer would be next man up. I don't understand the Dallas talk, and he could not pick up a blitz, if his life depended on it.

Coach Pete Carroll called Carlos Hyde's hamstring tightness "nothing major."

We will update Hyde's designation once his practice status is announced. With Chris Carson a game-time decision, Hyde has a great chance of absorbing Carson's entire workload, an average of 14 touches per game, against the 49ers if he handles this week of practice well.

Carlos Hyde (hamstring) remained sidelined on Thursday.

As did Chris Carson (foot) and Travis Homer (knee). Coach Pete Carroll has claimed Hyde's hamstring issue is "nothing major," but Carroll claims a lot of things. Hyde's odds of suiting up against the 49ers aren't looking terribly great, but Friday will tell the tale. The only currently practicing Seahawks back is rookie DeeJay Dallas, who has had trouble earning snaps.

Carlos Hyde (hamstring) is doubtful for Week 8 against the 49ers.

Meanwhile Chris Carson (knee) and Travis Homer (knee) are both questionable. Odds are both are deemed active with DeeJay Dallas Sunday while Hyde rides the pine. Dallas would garner high-end RB2 status if all are ruled out, but that decision will have to wait until Sunday morning.

Carlos Hyde (hamstring) remained sidelined on Thursday.

Coach Pete Carroll has already said Hyde is unlikely to play against the Bills. With Chris Carson battling a foot issue, it's quite possible DeeJay Dallas is staring at another week of leading the Seahawks' backfield, though Travis Homer (knee) appears likely to be ready after only being active on an emergency basis last Sunday.

Carlos Hyde (hamstring) won't play in Week 9 against the Bills.

Chris Carson (foot) was ruled out, too. DeeJay Dallas out-snapped Travis Homer 56 to 7 last week against the Niners, but the latter was battling through a knee injury at the time; now healthy, it remains to be seen if Homer will eat into Dallas' bell-cow workload. Dallas should still be considered an RB1 in the week's highest implied total (55) against the Bills. It's possible Dallas usurps Hyde as Carson's direct backup in this stint.

Seahawks coach Pete Caroll thinks RB Carlos Hyde (hamstring) will play in Week 11 against the Cardinals and is "a little bit ahead of" RB Chris Carson (foot) right now.

Ever the optimist about the health of his players, Carroll's caution around Carson's foot injury might indicate a Week 12 return for the veteran runner. Seattle playing on Thursday night and getting a short week of rest doesn't help either back's odds of playing in the coming week. If hyde does return, Alex Collins or DeeJay Dallas could be made inactive. Collins came in off the street and led the Seahawks in carries last week but the Seahawks spent Day 3 draft capital on Dallas in the spring. The backfield will likely be an ugly committee for fantasy purposes until Carson returns.

Carlos Hyde (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Tuesday.

Hyde has been eyeing a Week 11 return, and he's now firmly on track. Another full participation on Wednesday would mean he's ready to roll. Chris Carson, who was limited Tuesday, is also inching his way back and would presumably get a bellcow-type role if active. Hyde needs Carson to be ruled out to be worthy of flex consideration.
