Jets :: RB

RB C. Martin To PUP List

Associated Press, ESPN - [Full Article]

RB Curtis Martin will start the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list with a lingering knee injury. Martin had surgery in December but has been slow to recover. He was placed on the PUP list before training camp started so he could continue to rehab, but HC Mangini said there hasn't been enough progress for him to start practicing. Martin, No. 4 on the NFL's all-time rushing list, will be eligible to return in Week 6 at the earliest.

Like the Pennington announcement, no big surprise.

If this is really the end for Curtis, it's sad that he didn't get to leave on his own terms and with the proper sendoff.

IMO its the end of the line for the best Jet RB ever - he has been a great example to his team and the fans.

As for the Jets - they had to know this was coming - Curtis even told them it was - why they didn't go after a RB earlier is mind boggling! Hello Peterson in 2007!!

He should have hung them up after 2004.

Great player with a great love for the game.

TO and others could learn from this guy.

 The guy just won the rushing title that year. Why should he have quit?
Well I guess that was a bit of a stupid thing to say.I meant he should have decided to go out on top. But then again, he couldn't see what 2005 had in store.

He might have retired upon a Super Bowl victory, a la Bettis. (Like that will ever happen :wall: ).But yes, there was no way of knowing that both the team would quickly fall apart and Mother Nature would swoop in.

He's being placed on PUP. He can be brought back at some point after the 6th week in the season. He recently cut his salary to the bone for the Jets.I would not be surprised if he came back late in the season for cameo appearances before the home crowd as a way for the Jets to give him an appropriate send off.

True, if he's cleared to go, I think he'll get some gratuitous carries down the stretch. Maybe even a start or two at the end of the season.

I hope so. Some would go with Namath or Maynard but I've got to say he was the best Jet ever. Too bad he never got a ring, at least he played in the big game w/ the Pats.

As a 22 year Fantasy Football veteran who has made plenty of money/championships off of Curtis Martin(and has seen others with equal success off of him) I wish him the best and hope he can make it back enough to go out with a proper sendoff. Others would have the the hype year in and out - Curtis would deliver.

Not sure I would really call it new news as he had similar quotes all offseason but you asked for it......

Curtis Martin-RB- Jets Sep. 16 - 10:15 am et

Curtis Martin says he's "pleased" with his recovery from knee surgery.

Martin still is uncertain whether he'll be able to return in Week 7, when he can come off the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list. He's not worth waiting for except in the deepest of leagues.
