RB Derrick Henry, BAL (4 Viewers)

What are people thinking about Henry going forward? There is a interesting trade offer in a local league here - K Walker for Henry, yardage only.

Dynasty? If so, you kind of have to go with Walker imo unless you are absolutely Win Now.
Redraft. I ran the league scoring thru this site’s rest of the year rankings, Henry was 3rd. The offer was rescinded.
Good call. In redraft, I’d hitch my wagon to the known stud over the “what could hopefully be” rookie. and it’s not like either are on offense juggernaut teams.

Derrick Henry rushed 30 times for 128 yards in the Titans' Week 7 win over the Colts, adding three catches for 10 yards.

The game set up perfectly for Tennessee to lean on Henry, and that's exactly what they did. The Titans got out to an early lead and, in the third quarter, Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury. He played through the issue but the Titans gave up on throwing after that, riding Henry for the final quarter. This is also the first time in Henry's career that he has caught at least three passes in four consecutive games. He will look to get back in the end zone in his Week 8 matchup with the Texans.

Hall of Famer, right?

Being in a committee his first 2 seasons and missing half of 2021 have hurt his total yardage and TDs a bit, but that could mean he has another 5 years in the tank. He has absolutely crushed since 2019 though with 2 rushing titles including a 2000 yard season, was on pace for 2000 last year when he went down, and is on pace to be the rushing leader and sniff 2000 yards this season.

All 75 Henry TDs

He certainly passes the eye test. He has 13 TDs over 50 yards, 9 of those are over 70 yards, including a 95 yard against the Texans and that 99 yard TD against the Jags. His size and speed are crazy. Hopefully he is able to stay healthy and pound out another 5 solid seasons, add another rushing title, and maybe get a ring so that there is no question as to whether he gets in.

Derrick Henry (foot) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

It's a "new" injury for Henry, and it's at least notable after Henry missed half of last season with a broken foot. But we haven't seen anything to cause concern regarding Henry's Week 9 availability with The Big Dog coming off a 32/219/2 whooping of the Texans.

Q with foot? Uh oh. Which foot?
I suspect it was just a rest day for Henry and they needed something to put down on the practice report.

Henry vs Texans Mic'd Up

Watching him run is like watching a ballerina crossed with a bulldozer. I like these mic'd up videos because you get a glimpse of the player's personality. Henry comes across as a humble leader. Really hope he carries the Titans to a championship in the next few years.

Derrick Henry (foot) did not practice Thursday.

It's probably not much to be concerned about considering a) he was limited on Wednesday and b) he spoke with media and told them he'd be playing in Week 9. But Henry did downgrade from limited to DNP today and that makes him a little more likely to have a questionable tag on the final Week 9 injury report. We'd still speculate that Henry is on the optimistic side of questionable.

Hall of Famer, right?

Not at this time.

His honors are limited:
  • 2020 OPOY
  • 1 1st team All Pro selection (2020)
  • 1 2nd team All Pro selection (2019)
  • 2 Pro Bowl selections (2019, 2020)
Here are his relevant career ranks:
  • #59 in rushing yards (7,552)
  • #17 in rushing yards per game (81.2)... but this one will almost certainly fade as he ages
  • #183 in yards from scrimmage (8,538)
  • #31 in rushing TDs (72)
  • #80 in rushing/receiving TDs (75)
He has played 7 postseason games and has 820 YFS and 4 TDs in those games. That is fine, but not compelling.

Here are his YFS totals, ranked from most to least:
  1. 2020 - 2141
  2. 2019 - 1746
  3. 2018 - 1158
  4. 2021 - 1091
  5. 2022 - 895 and counting
  6. 2017 - 880
  7. 2016 - 627
As of now, 2020 looks like an outlier. His lack of involvement in the passing game really hurts.

Hall of Fame Monitor:
  • Current score is 27.30, which ranked #148 among RBs
  • The average HOF RB score is 106.95
None of these RBs are in the HOF (with HOF Monitor score):
  1. LeSean McCoy (82.84)
  2. Roger Craig (77.48)
  3. Marshawn Lynch (69.14)
  4. Ricky Watters (63.89)
  5. Shaun Alexander (62.38)
  6. Tiki Barber (58.0)
  7. Priest Holmes (55.65)
  8. Warrick Dunn (54.94)
  9. Jamal Lewis (53.49)
  10. Fred Taylor (52.90)
  11. Corey Dillon (51.93)
Is Henry clearly more deserving than the guys in that group? Not today.

He's not done. So we'll have to see what he accomplishes from here.

Derrick Henry rushed 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans' Week 9 overtime loss to the Chiefs.

Henry entered halftime with 92 yards and two scores and mustered only 23 additional yards through the second half and overtime as the Titans managed only three points after the break. His first score came from the wildcat from four yards out and his second score came on the next possession from one yard out following an Austin Hooper reception in the red zone. The Titans have managed only 4.1 second half points per game this season, which has largely capped Henry's upside as the team looks to control games late with their defense. Henry maintains top three upside at the position as the Titans prepare to host the Broncos, whom present a difficult matchup on the ground in Week 10.

Yeah, easy to forget his first 3 seasons the coaches thought it best he split time so his career numbers are quite low overall. Mularkey was playing washed up Demarco Murray over him, even Vrabel gave Dion Lewis a ton of work his first year as head coach.

Henry is the entire offense. Everything else works (or has a chance of working) because defenses have to account for him. His success in the RZ is irreplaceable. If they actually had more firepower on offense they win that game last night in regulation.

Agreed. If Tannehill played they win that game... maybe handily.

Plying QB in the NFL likes like a bridge too far for Malik Willis. He's not even up to a "back-up" role yet.

Derrick Henry rushed 19 times for 53 yards in the Titans' Week 10 win over the Broncos.

The Titans came away with the win, but Henry running 19 times into a herd of defenders did little to help the cause. Often the hammer of the Titans' offense, Henry's longest run of the day came on a 10-yard gain, as he was otherwise bottled up for most of the afternoon. He added two catches for 14 additional yards, but Ryan Tannehill and the passing game kept the ball moving for the Titans. Fortunately for Henry, he and the Titans get a Thursday night matchup against a bad Packers defense in Week 11. Henry remains locked in as a high-end RB1.

Derrick Henry rushed 28 times for 87 yards and a touchdown in the Titans' Week 11 win over the Packers, adding two completions for four yards and a touchdown and two catches for 45 additional yards.

Derrick Henry became the first player since Walter Payton to receive 20+ carries, complete two passes, and rush for a touchdown in a night that saw the bruising back do it all for the Titans. His rushing score came just before half on a four-yard run up the middle before he tossed a touchdown to tight end Austin Hooper on a goal line trick play in the third quarter. Henry truly impacted every aspect of the game, with his mere presence opening up a pass game that had largely struggled of late. Henry maintains his King status as the Titans prepare to host the Bengals in Week 12.

Derrick Henry rushed 11 times for 30 yards, adding two receptions for eight yards on three targets in the Titans' Week 13 loss to the Eagles.

Henry was bottled up throughout the game by an Eagles run defense that was bolstered by the return of Jordan Davis. The Titans also struggled to protect Ryan Tannehill, and Henry's lack of production was somewhat a symptom of an offense that was generally sputtering. He should be in much better shape when the Titans take on a very weak Jaguars passing defense in Week 14. Henry won't see a ton of work in the passing game, but if the Titans are moving the chains, he'll be able to deliver high-end RB1 value.

Passing CJ for third on Titans all time rushing list.
Hit multiple times right when he got the ball, even more in the backfield and he gets over 100. Not to mention the lack of a passing threat around.

People characterizing his demise on if he makes people miss haven't watched his career.

There isn't a back in the NFL that would have had 100+ under that circumstance.

That was one tough game and so much smash mouth style. Jags beat the Titans by 50 if not for Henry. Their D was "this close" to so many big plays and key plays. The Titans line was horrendous and the acting GM cut his FB last week too. Such a OMG you're a beast game by him.

Derrick Henry rushed 21 times for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Titans' Week 15 loss to the Chargers, adding four catches for 59 yards.

Not only was this a strong showing from henry as a runner, but he also registered his second-best game of 2022 in receiving yards and reception. He also led the Titans in catches and yards in this game. Henry would have had a chance to play into the end zone on his final catch of the night had he not stumbled to the ground while securing the ball. Henry gets an incredible matchup versus the Texans in Week 16, giving him a shot at being the week's RB1 overall.

112? yards in the first half and he finished with like 130- when he has a string of 200 yard games against the opponent AND they're not really letting the rookie QB throw. What a ridiculous halftime gameplan adjustment!

Titans OC Downing had been rumored to be on his way out and...oof did he seal his fate this weekend.

Been thinking lately how everyone has Henry slowing down and discussing him nearing or heading towards the end of his career etc.

I think y'all are a little crazy with this. He's been 1st-3rd in the NFL in rushing all year. Behind a bad OL, He's putting up 100 yard days regularly and when he doesn't he is getting 60-80 yards receiving.

My Q really is who are you comparing him to to have this negativity? Last summer was Taylor and a few Najee fans- he's far better than them this year.

I want to say Chubb here because he doesn't get the love either. He's like assumed greatness people take for granted. Henry's been ahead of him, then neck n neck...

He has "never" fumbled and this year six or so. He got caught from behind a few times. What else? The Titans are playing linemen they couldn't trade, UDFAs, later picks, and castoffs and....

I hope next year all your collective negativity will allow me to finally land Henry on an FF team

The problem is, when an RB gets "old", he gets old fast. Yeah, Henry might still have some left in the tank. Maybe enough for a top 10 finish in 2023. Or he could start to hit the cliff halfway through next season. But if you're in keeper/dynasty... you have to be looking at moving him for your next 3/4 year stud while he can still get you that kind of value.

Henry is just part human, he’s a cyborg.

Also, it’s “a”, not “an” RB :) If next word starts with a vowel it would be “an”.

If we’re gonna be pedantic It’s actually more based on the sound than the letter, so it depends whether you’re writing to be pronounced “are-bee” (which would get an ‘an’) or “running back” (which would get an ‘a’) :-)

In any event, the problem with “just sell him and get a next 3-4 year stud” logic is nobody’s giving you a comparable younger back. If you have a glut at RB or you’re in a rebuild and want to sell him off for the best pick you can get I get it but if you had a foster he belonged on in the first place it’s hard to stomach the weekly points downgrade you’d be eating. Like who are we really trading him for?

it’s whether the following word starts with a vowel or not. If the following word starts with a vowel, it would be “an apple“, or “an igloo“, or “an expert” , or “an ox“. If following word doesn’t start with a vowel it would be “a running back”, ”a beast”, ”a truck”.

Edited both have some truth. But in this case it is a running back, not an running back. See definition in post below..

For example, the word hour begins with the consonant h. But the h is silent, so the word has a vowel sound. Hence:

The rule works the other way as well. Take the word university. It begins with the vowelu. But the u is pronounced as if it begins with the consonant y. Hence:

a university
But consider the word umbrella, also starting with u. It starts with the vowel sound uh. Hence:

an umbrella
Another vowel with a consonant sound is o. When spoken, the letter can sound as if it beginswith the consonant w. Thus, we use the a:

Articles with Words Beginning with ‘h,’ a or an

The consonant giving us the most trouble is probably h. When the h begins a word and the first syllable is strongly pronounced, you should use a.

a history of Europe (accent falls on his) a hero (accent falls on he)
But when the beginning h is weakly pronounced (historic, habitual), you may use an, especially in British English.

How do you say your child is a/an honor roll student?
Or someone is a/an FBI agent?

Spoken English does not equal written English.

in other news, I roster Henry in my Super Win Now SharkPool FFPC dynasty team and I only look to sell him mid next season to a contender if I’m not a contender at that point.
