Hey shadyridr,What's your take on the deployment of Bradshaw and Jacobs, at least to start the season? Are there clearly defined roles, such as Jacobs at the goal line?Is there more of a 50/50 split planned as far as series go?I've been trying to see what the coaches are saying, but all I get is writers opinions. My feel is that Jacobs should end up with more TDs but Bradshaw will get more touches (and obviously more catches). I could see Bradshaw get 16 carries per game to Jacobs 12. Is that reasonable? What do you think?I read the whole post and it was good stuff. I was just surprised by the lack of greens and reds. If I had to make a prediction Id say they get an equal split in carries, Ahmad will get the large # of receptions, and while Jacobs will get more of the goal line touches he wont be the designated goal line back. Ahmad will get his share of touches on the goal line. Id rather have Ahmad but its closer than their ADP was this year.Hey shadyridr,What's your take on the deployment of Bradshaw and Jacobs, at least to start the season? Are there clearly defined roles, such as Jacobs at the goal line?Is there more of a 50/50 split planned as far as series go?I've been trying to see what the coaches are saying, but all I get is writers opinions. My feel is that Jacobs should end up with more TDs but Bradshaw will get more touches (and obviously more catches). Thanks for the insights. Scoring format is huge in determining the differential between these two. Everything published about Jacobs suggests he is in a far better state of mind this year than last. It will be interesting to see how that translates onto the field. If I had to make a prediction Id say they get an equal split in carries, Ahmad will get the large # of receptions, and while Jacobs will get more of the goal line touches he wont be the designated goal line back. Yeah, I saw that. None of this changes my opinion any from the pre-season, other than it looks like it may be happening sooner than I thought.Mike McCarthy said after the game he felt Starks didn't get enough carries/touches...read into that what you want. Not really an update for some of the games coming Sunday, but I thought I'd muse a bit about my Packers for next week. I'd like to see one more game to confirm this, but I believe Grant is just a security blanket for Mike McCarthy now. Starks was in a lot last night and he made plays that I don't think go anywhere if Ryan Grant is in his place. Several times there really just wasn't anything there and Starks was able to make a play and get some yardage. On similar plays Grant just didn't make that happen. Grant will spell Starks and is certainly more trustworthy on pass blocking, but Starks is also developing his blocking. I figured at the start of the season they'd platoon and GB would go with the hot back. I don't think that's the case anymore. I think Starks has taken the lead as the RB1 here. Not to say Grant won't be productive...but Starks is the one to have IMHO.I'll admit I am a Starks owner, but I also own McCoy/DMC/Matthews in a ppr league, so it's not like I'm banking on him to pull through for me. Just my two cents. Oh...and New Glarus Spotted Cow or Saint Arnold Lawn Mower ale for a little light beverage to wash away the sun.
Eh, I read this thread to get me thinking outside the box about different situations. The discussions here are way more valuable then being able to say, "I told you so!" I wish more people wouldn't worry about being wrong on the internet and contribute to the discussion. What did Tolbert avg last year from week to week? He had 182 carries and 11 TDs...I guess that kind of production can continue. I understand what you guys are saying, maybe a Red mark was wrong, but it seems like Mathews being the #12 pick overall had a disappointing year last season but I don't think they are going to split this 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of Tolbert unless Mathews really stinks it up again or goes down with an injury. I'm not changing it in the OP because the content goes haywire if I go back into it. I'll stick with the red for now, and you guys can come in and boast after the game. I sure don't see Tolbert as a top20 candidate this week, do you? I have a feeling thins will shift around in favor of Mathews, at least early on in the season. Now come week 5 things might change again. That's no different from any other week, maybe less so since the Broncos still have Champ. Basically, if you hate Tolbert (red) this week there aren't too many weeks you're not going to hate him.
Knowshon Moreno - RB - Broncos Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy says the Broncos will use an even timeshare in the backfield that could become a hot-hand situation if Knowshon Moreno or Willis McGahee plays well early in the game. The Denver Post refers to the situation as "troubling news to fantasy football players everywhere." Said McCoy, "If someone is in there playing and they're on a roll, then they're going to stay in. When they need to come out, then they're going to come out. ... We're going to roll them." The good news for Moreno is that he's a much more effective runner than McGahee. Particularly in PPR leagues, we'd lean toward starting Moreno as an RB2 against Oakland. Source: Denver Post Sep 10 - 12:09 PMI think folks might be surprised by McGahee on Monday Night but I think he will see some serious action especially when Denver gets near the end zone. Knowshon Moreno has not seized the starting gig, coaches open in training camp about him not being a 3 down type back and possibly not a feature back, just not feeling the Moreno love.
It wasn't an equal split in 2008 It was less of an equal split in 2009 What makes you think it will be equal in 2011?Bradshaw will get between 60-65% of the carries and most of the catchesIf I had to make a prediction Id say they get an equal split in carries, Ahmad will get the large # of receptions, and while Jacobs will get more of the goal line touches he wont be the designated goal line back. I think it's not that easy to be talking about exploit/avoid matchups this early in the season anyway, so that actually seems about right. Except for the now orange Tolbert.MOP:On the Tolbert thing, I don't have an issue with putting him red necessarily, but rather with you stating you think he and Mathews will be about the same but then putting them in different categories. Either they're gonna be about the same, so they're the same color (be it green, blue, black, orange, red, or whatever other color you come up with'Limp Ditka said:Kind of surprised by this. I know you asked shady and not me, but I've been following this thread and I've seen multiple references similar to this one: LINKI know it's old but there are reports all over that suggest the split will be closer to 50/50 than it was last year. So I don't think it's accurate to state that the split will be 50/50, but I think it's fair to suggest it will be less tilted toward Bradshaw than it was in 2010. Unfortunately, we won't know for sure until we see it for real on the field. It wasn't an equal split in 2008 It was less of an equal split in 2009If I had to make a prediction Id say they get an equal split in carries, Ahmad will get the large # of receptions, and while Jacobs will get more of the goal line touches he wont be the designated goal line back. Yeah, I hear ya on not being able to please everybody.I'd just avoid saying both things at once - it wasn't putting Tolbert in red that was the issue. It was that you said he and Mathews would be the same and then put them in different colors (effectively saying they would be different)And so far, for today at least, the orange looks like a good idea'Ministry of Pain said:Can't please 'em all Instinctive, you can't please them all. I think the ORANGE is a great idea because it means that I am listening to the posters. It means I moved a guy off his original color based on this thread, but I want folks to understand it wasn't my original thoughts. The orange represents a move back to the middle so in essence they are the same now. You won't see it used very often but Groovus convinced me so I went with it.Cheers
And I know it probably looks super snide to bump this like this, but I promise that's not the spirit in which it is intended. It's half a pat on the back for introducing the orange color and half saying I think you may want to reconsider Tolbert's status for the the season going forward. On Tolbert: Minnesota lost the Williams Wall this year iirc, and I think that means that San Diego can pound in it pretty hard around the goal line. Rivers to VJax is nice, but I really don't see any team choosing to go to the air from super close without giving your bruiser at least a shot against new starters on a DLine.I'd be ok with starting Tolbert as a RB2 or a flex play.

I sure don't see Tolbert as a top20 candidate this week, do you?It just seems like you're not being real consistent with your evaluations here. If they only guys you'd have ahead of McFadden are Johnson and Peterson, I'd figure you should have given a more positive write up.With Tolbert, it's not that you're not saying he's top 20, it's that you're telling people he'll have a bad game. I don't see any reason (and you certainly haven't given any) to think he'll be particularly bad this week in the context of what people expect from him this year - i.e. given that you yourself said he and Matthews should probably put up similar days, how can he be in red and Matthews in black, particularly considering that all else being equal, Tolbert is more likely to get a TD and receptions. Just seems like you haven't really thought these two through.Would I start anyone over DMC this week? They would have to be named Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson...does that help?
