Background: I inherited a 40-player dynasty roster with IDP's and with PPR scoring back in 2004. My RB's included Stephen Davis and . . . :X . I had other holes, but that was and has remained the most glaring one. Since then I have done everything I could to draft, trade for and sign RB's. Examples of my desperation include trading my 2005 1st rounder for William Green back in 2004, and trading Tony Romo 18 months ago for Fred Taylor and Warrick Dunn. Yeah, I've been pretty desperate.

Well, be careful what you wish for, because my roster now includes this "stable" of running backs (and when and how they were acquired):

So because of my handiwork, in any given week this year, I've got to choose two of between six and eight RB's to hopefully put up some decent production for me (we have flex lineups and I could start a 4th WR or a 2nd TE instead of my RB2, but PPR scoring is not weighted so I don't figure I'll be doing that very often). I'm going to stock up on lots of alcohol as I'm sure I'm going to be more wrong than right with my picks.

I can't imagine anyone's got a worse problem in this regard than I do with this team, but please give us your tales of RBBC woe here.

I'm nursing a hammy and I don't trust myself not to retire. Oh, and I forgot about the worst of the RB-starved trades because it wasn't a straight trade for a RB. During the 2005 draft, I traded for the 1.13 pick when it was on the clock because I was absolutely in love with a player who was still available. I traded Larry Fitzgerald straight up. Who did I select? Ciatrick Fason.

In truth, I'm proud of the way I've rebuilt this roster (I'll spare the board a listing of it however) and my team overall is strong, but I've been looking at my RB's this preseason and the lack of clarity is astounding.

I mean, I couldn't even give you a solid depth chart right now, aside from generally feeling at this point, VERY much subject to change, that Maroney and Ricky Williams are probably my top 2 RB's. And good luck ranking the next six guys.

You've fallen into the trap that myself many years ago and many other dynasty 1st time owners fall into. End up trading away future draft picks etc. just to get serviceable starters to try and be semi-competitive in the 1st year or 2. The problem with this logic is more often then not, it usually sets you back many years than expected. I highly recommend to new dynasty owners to avoid the tempation to do any trades in the 1st year (the veteran shark owners with throw out ever sales pitch possible to steal your next year draft picks, because they know they will be #1 or 2 overall picks more than likely). Just take your lumps in the 1st year or 2 and play with the scrubs you've been dealt, and build through your high rookie draft picks and waiver pickups. Trading with veteran owners in year 1 for dynasty owners is usually a bloodbath and the sharks lick their chops whenever they hear about "newbie owner" or expansion owner.

That was indeed my first dynasty team, and I've refined my approach as I've gone, and learned a lot of hard lessons well. I'm now much more patient and less impulsive, and I find that I tend to regret far fewer trades that didn't happen than that did.

Actually I continue to believe all the value is in WRs. I roster 3 RBs and 7 WRs this year.

My dynasty league's rosters aren't nearly as big as yours, but I feel your pain. I, too, took over a team and I'm doing my best to make it competitive while seemingly making it weaker.

My RB's in no particular order since none of them are distinguishable from each other.

Kevin Jones (drafted as a rookie)

Laurence Maroney (drafted as a rookie)

Julius Jones (acquired by trading Chris Chambers)

Sammy Morris (Free agent)

Chrissy Brown (Free agent)

Andre Hall (Free agent)

Ladell Betts (drafted)

Michael Bush (drafted as a rookie)

When I inherited the team I had Edge and Jamal Lewis, but traded them both away a couple years ago. I don't think I got anything for Lewis as he looked DONE in Baltimore and I believe I traded Edge and DeShaun Foster to get Chris Chambers and Vernon Davis.

I do have the 2nd overall rookie pick, so that'll be used on either McFadden or Stewart, whoever doesn't go 1st, so I'll be struggling very similar to you. My league starts 1 RB, 1 WR, and 3 Flex though so all I have to do (which is no small feat) is to find one RB to start.

I won't even go into my WR's.

I have previously posted what WRs I have traded away for my sick obsession with RBs. I have a need to have all RBs from a given team. For instance, it really bugs me that I do not have J. Norwood. My league instituted a rule limiting the maximum number of RBs on a roster to 10 because of me. There is talk of further limiting it to 8, also because of me.

I don't play FF to win. I play because I enjoy it, and other personal reasons. My RBs at this point are:

I don't get it, but to each his own I guess. I'm sure the other (winning) owners enjoy spending the $ just the same - or I HOPE this is a free league, and just for the challenge.Sounds a little OCD to me.

I'm sure if you offered Selvin to the Norwood owner, he'd make that deal. And D Ward is one (injury to Jacobs) play away from being worth a lot more than many of the other RBs in that stable.

Well, it's not a free league, but it is the only one I play in. I do not care to join any other leagues. I tried the Young for Norwood trade, but a Denver RB is not as valuable as it once was I guess. There was no way I could get Bradshaw & Jacobs, so I just cut bait on Ward. This is how I enjoy this hobby. I don't expect people to understand it, or care, and that is fine with me.
