Reasons why having more IDP players is better (1 Viewer)

Hello all, my league currently has 4 spots for IDP players, 2 DL/LB, 1 DB and 1 defensive player of any position. It is really frustrating to me, because as you can imagine there are a whole host of players out there as free agents that just shouldnt be free agents. I am going to propose a rule for next year that would increase the number of IDP starters from 4 to 6. Any ammo that you all can think of to help me with this argument? I notice that most leagues have more than 4 starting players.

I don't know how I can help but we have full starting rosters with 11 Defense just like the NFL.

35 man rosters.

2 HC (head coach)

2 QB

4 RB

5 WR/TE

2 PK

2 OL (offensive line, lose points per sack given up)

6 DL

6 LB

6 DB

Start:

1 HC

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR/TE

1 PK

1 OL

3 DL

4 LB

4 DB

(option to start a 4-3 D with 4 DL and 3 LB)

If you are only starting four, picking someone hot from the wire is too easy. It stifles trades as well.

I play in three IDP leagues

10 teamer: play three DB and four LB/DL - not much to get on the wire but still possible if you are on the ball

16 teamer, play 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DL one flex (usually LB as tackle heavy) - you have to get up early to get something off the wire - deep bench.

32 teamer, play 2 DL, 3 LB, 2DB one DL/DB (usually DB as PD and INT get good points) - WW LB? Hah, forget it. A few DL and DBs available - relatively shallow bench.

Here's a point to throw out there:

They need to realize that having that few of IDP's on a roster and in the lineup makes the game a ton about luck, as everyone has a good one, and there's a ton of guys on waivers.

Would the owners like playing in a start 1 QB/RB/WR/K/D with a flex of any non-QB? You'd have solid players on waivers all the time.

I love the way we do it in my dynasty league. 40-man rosters, PPR, 4 taxi squad spots, and 4 IR spots.

On defense, you start 11, as follows:

1-2 DT's

1-2 DE's (depending on # of DT's starting; needs to be 3 linemen total)

3-4 LB's

2-3 CB's

2-3 S's

The fact that the DB's and the DL's are broken out by position makes it both more challenging and more fun.

I appreciate you fellas taking the time to give me some input. Definately some good ammo. I love the idea of expanding the roster to have 11 defensive starters, but I need to take it one step at a time. I'd like a league with 6-8 starters on defense. The problem is that some people in this league are stubborn and don't like changing things around much. The main thing is that there are so many good players on the waiver wire, and making the player pool deeper makes it less about luck. Thanks again fellas.

In my league there are still quality waiver wire pickups at mid-season, especially at DT and CB, and you can usually find good prospects or decent bye week fillers at all positions. To be sure, though, you need to be on top of it to manage your team well.

There are those who like to play in several differnt leagues of all styles, me I'm a one league kind a guy. One of my son-in-laws has a freind who comes over to the house most every Sunday to watch football, I swear he has every offensive player in the NFL in one his many league's :lmao: which is cool, but ... you can get virtually have the same thing with a 53 man dynasty league starting 11 IDP's.

So ... one benefit is you would have interest, in terms of FF, in more games.

For me, the defensive side of FF is more fun than the offensive side. Good Luck!

Another good thing about starting more IDP's is that it can help even the field for those not fortunate enough to have LT or LJ or other great players on their team.

:yes:The VBD value of a guy like Julius Peppers rates very highly.

Can you explain the scoring system and how head coaches score exactly. Is it -5 for a loss, +1 for a win. I like the idea of using coaches, but I am just wondering how you score it. I am also interested in knowing how offensive lineman score. If they only lose points for giving up a sack, couldn't you just start a backup lineman who doesn't play?

I actually posted my scoring system in this thread: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=288832For HC it's -10 per loss, +10 per win.

OL is a team position (you draft the Bears OL for example) and is -5 per sack given up.

Why not make it where the actual score determines how many points the coach gets? Win by 5, get 5 points. Lose by 14, lose 14 points.
