Reche Caldwell, Troy Brown, Chad Jackson (1 Viewer)

...does not resolve itself soon, one of the three will become a viable fantasy WR. Currently, the depth chart seems to have the three placed in the order above, and Brady has praised an unproven Reche Caldwell's play in camp.

We all know Ben Watson has been the sexy pick in drafts since the Branch issue became mainstream, but what is less clear is how the NE WR sitatuion will shake out.

Any NE homers out here with some insight on the WR situation assuming Branch leaves or holds out for an extended period of time?

I would assume Troy Brown. Only guy that really has Brady's trust and knows the system.I wouldn't expect big numbers from any of the 3 though. Alot of spreading the ball around in NE.

To the other wide right -

I've been following the same thing as both Caldwell and Troy Brown are currently on my leagues waiver wire. If you look at the last preseason game targets

Brown got 9 targets

Caldwell got 6 targets -however Caldwell got the deep looks

I think I am going to pick up Brown becuase it is also a bit of a safer pick, if Branch comes back Brown will still be playing were Caldwell won't.

Right now I don't think any of them have much value:

*For all the positive that has been on display in the past two games one hasn't been Reche Caldwell. He has shown nothing so far. The hands aren't that great and he doesn't seem to be getting much separation. My guess is he's simply in over his head and is best suited as a #3.

*Troy Brown is the perfect example of a a guy being a much better real football player than fantasy player. Even when he had his best years his numbers weren't spectacular. I really don't see him putting up numbers that will help a fantasy team this year. He'll make a lot of tough catches and keep the chains moving but he's not a guy that will get in the end zone or put up much in the yardage department.

*As for Jax he's been MIA all camp with a hamstring problem. Since rookie WR's are a roll of the dice to begin with how much can he be expected to contribute having missed all of camp.

The bottomline is Patriot WRs are not fantasy-friendly. Last year was probably the best scenario under BB for a WR (Branch) to put up big numbers. The D was beyond banged up so passing was a must, Givens and Troy missed time and the rest of the Wrs were garbage and Brady lead the NFL in yardage. With all that happening Branch still didn't crack 1,000 yards and had only 5 TDs. This year with a D that looks good and a running game that should be vastly improved with the addition of Maroney and the health of Dillon, Faulk and the O line I just don't see anyone outside of Ben Watson capable of a big year.

Everything is relative. In 8 or 10 team leagues that start 2 WR, then no Brown does not hold much value. But in deep leagues that go 100 WR deep, then Brown has a fair amount of value (Survivor Leagues or 16-team leagues).

I read that Brady worked with Caldwell alot in the OTAs and at other times, building rapport.
I had read the same thing, but watching Caldwell over the last couple pre-season games he has looked lost at times. Either he doesn't fully no the playbook or he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer but Brady has had to point out where Caldwell should be lining up several times. I believe last week they even had to take a timeout because Caldwell was out of position. Here is speculation from Rotoworld and the Boston Herald. Reche Caldwell-WR- Patriots Aug. 28 - 11:30 am et Reche Caldwell continues to struggle in Patriots camp.We don't think he'll be starting in Week 1 because of his slow assimiliation to the Patriots offense.Source: Boston Herald
