"Red Sox Nation... What a bunch of **** that is (1 Viewer)

The Steinbrenner kids are going full bore into the obnoxious owner clique. Dont know if there is a link, but heard on WFAN some choice quotes, mostly from Hank but some by his brother as well.

"Red Sox Nation, what a bunch of **** that is." Then he goes on saying that contrary to ESPN's coverage - and ESPN is full of Red Sox Fans (per Hank) this is not a Red Sox nation, "this is a Yankees nation... go to other Citys and you dont see anyone wearing red sox gear. You see yankees hats, yankees jackets" - or something to that effect.

THEN, he RIPS on Torre... how he is glad that he "has a manager now that has a little more fire in his gut" how leaders dont "hide in their rooms"

Big Mets fans here, and it looks like the Yanks great years of non meddling Steinbrenners that let baseball be baseball while putting a winning team out there and raking in ridicucash may have given way. Steinbrenner mellowed and aged (and got suspended :achem:) and the yanks flourished. Now he's too old, and his kids are making it look - and smell - just a bit like then Bronx Zoo again.

This has nothing to do with the Sox and Yanks and everything to do with comedic value. This is good theatre - especially when you consider these are probably the two most obnoxious fan bases in baseball, each for their own unique reasons.Of course, the fact that Sox fans have become so like Yanks fans in many ways just adds to the joy. Oh, and if this is not baseball related enough, can put it in the FFA where someone other than :nerds: will read it.Oh, nm... duh.

Hi Pot.
You say this like it's a bad thing.

Red Sox fan here and I've been saying this for years. Red Sox Nation...what a bunch of crap. Seriously. However it has been a great marketing tool....that screws people like me from ever getting a seat in Fenway again.

Wow, thank God this guy is not running the team I follow...
The Red Sox thing is funny. It's adding fuel to a rivarly fire (between the two most obnoxious fan bases, that both now feel entitled to greatness) and is good theatre. But calling out Torre like that? Shows an utter lack of respect and appreciation for FOUR world series rings and what had been accomplished by the franchise by the organization, the management and their freakin' father. Would be great to see these blowhards never see a championship while blustering as if THEY are entitled to say ANYthing without having proven one iota as owners themselves. Way to ride coatails and break on stage with Act I - Foolhardy Loudmouthed Idiots.

"I'm a big Hank fan," Red Sox owner John Henry wrote in an email to the newspaper. "Just to ensure he knows how cool Red Sox Nation is, [saturday] we officially inducted him as a member of Red Sox Nation and we are sending him his membership card giving him access to an array of options including our newsletter, bumper stickers, pins, Green Monster seats and a hat personally autographed by David Ortiz."
:2cents: point - Henry

That's his retort to Epstein's assinine comment about Mike Mussina.
Mike Mussina deserves ASSinine comments thrown his way. Guy is a doosh.
Not from the GM of another team. But I suppose that was Theo just being Theo?
What did he say about Mussina?
Epstein-Mussina
Thanks, I hadn't seen that. Mussina took the high road and Theo looked stupid. I am a Yankee fan and have been saying how stupid Hank has been looking/talking...just shut the heck up Hank! But Theo stepped out and did something that Cashman has avoided

Do you have a link to actually prove the sense of entitlement to greatness the Red Sox fans have or is that just that your opinion from a handful of online discourse? Some of you have compared NY and Boston... Here's the rest of the quote from Hammering Hank. Restore order to the universe? (what an #####) This is a "sense of entitlement". You won't find statements like these ANYWHERE else in sports!"We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order"And FWIW, I bet my bottom dollar Kevin Brown was #####in up a storm about going to Japan. Kevin Brown (another #####) and "true Yankee".

 (I hate the Yanks, btw. But Boston haves have become as smug as Yanks fans in many ways - just an observation echoed by many of my friends).

Pats fans don't concern me. Their sense of entitlement got owned by my Giants - forever.

They should only let you in red sox nation if your wear a pink hat.

As a life long red sox fan, "Red Sox Nation" is one of the dumbest marketing ploys ever created.

And you have friends with an unbiased perspective of Red Sox fans?I don't see it. I've followed Boston for a long time and have seen my fair share of heart break. Like many others, there was always (and still is) a "waiting for the other shoe to drop" mentality. I'm sure fans in Chicago, etc. know exactly what I'm talking about. The vast majority of fans that I know recognize what a grind the baseball season is and the difficulty and luck involved in winning a championship. I don't know a single person who takes it for granted.

That's because you are on the inside. Try going to game in Philly/Baltimore or any other area accessible by Boston fans. You'll see.

Darn  I've seen it in B-more; 'tis true, 'tis true. Red Sox fan = Yankee fan. A distinction without a difference.

Red Sox fan since Yaz was playing in the shadows of Teddy Ballgame. I have never lived on the east coast, so I can't say that I have much insider experience with the rivalry. I truely miss the curse years. To watch a game in Fenway knowing that at some point during the season doom, or poor play, would undo my hopes of a championship. I was excited beyond belief in 2004, but since have realized that we are buying wins much like the Yanks have. The irrating thing is the large number of locals who became fans at that moment and have gotten cocky because they are following a winner. We could use another 86 years of losing seasons to rid ourselves of these parasites.

Just heard some story of a guy who was out with his GF at a lounge in Boston wearing a yanks cap - group of Sox fans started talking #### and all, and according to the story he and his gf left. The Boston fans followed him outside and then proceeded to beat the crap out of him including numerous kicks while the guy was on the ground.

Anyone in Boston hear about this? Obviously not indicative of all/most fans but noteworthy nonetheless in this rivalry.

I wore my Yanks hat in Boston bars the last two times I was there. Those Good Will Hunting wannabees didn't want any piece of this guy.
