Smoltz / Chamberlain first up. Time for the Smoltz of old to step up and show he is still in there

This series is the line in the sand for me. If the Yanks maintain or add to their lead....I'll be confident that they can go to the playoffs and win the World Series. If they lose ground or get knocked from first.....in my eyes...they aren't a World Series team.

The only way they get knocked from first is a sweep...
 
I like the Yankees here. But with Beckett and Lester pitching we may chop the series. As far as the season goes I think the Yankees pull off the division. Boston is a non-factor with just two effective arms. All that pitching talk and we can't even patch together a decent rotation. Penny, Buccholz, Smoltz and Daisuke all stink.

pitching is a crapshoot
 
I don't think the Sox are going to make the playoffs. They don't even have a passable #3 starter right now. At this point, we have to hope that Wakefield is the guy and he's not a guy I trust in the playoffs.

Smoltz sucks, Penny is trending down, Buchholz at this point is unreliable. Maybe give Bowden a shot but things are not looking good.

Can't believe they let Masterson go. He's gong to be a perennial 15 game winner.

Not sure this game could've gone any other way. Smotlz is done. I'm glad it got out of hand fast and they didn't burn the pen too much.

:goodposting:I was at the game last night, and absolutely LOVED seeing Mr. Versatility play LF. It was comical. His throw to home in the middle innings was gawd awful. Very amusing to see.

No worse than a Damon wounded duck (can't use Matsui any more since he no longer plays the field).1 out of 4...while not looking great, the ship will be steadied.
 
Fantastic game so far tonight that might be over in less than 4 hours... if somebody can score a run.
