Relative in your league? (1 Viewer)

My wife asked me for a favor. To give my brother-in-law a spot in my new FF league. My league mates don't really care but I wonder if they do and just aren't saying anything.

The integrity of my league is far more important than making my wife happy.

Would it bother you as a league member if there were two people who were semi-related in the same league? Obviously I do not intend to trade with him but I would also be handicapping myself by not being able to make any trades with his team(I love to deal)

Is it a bad idea and should I just find a new owner?

I have commished a league with my two brothers and I in it for 7 years. No big deal, IMO.

You are overthinking this one.

Treat him like any other owner, there's no reason why you shouldnt be able to trade with him. Is he a noob entering a moneyleague full of sharks ?

I came into an online league last year that was in its 5th year, and was started by co-workers / family. Hence, the core of the league knows each other, and some are related - haven't had a problem yet. Obviously, people who "see" each other a lot can discuss trades more, but I haven't seen any unfair advnatage. As long as the owners are good and competitive, there won't be any problems.

:lmao:Good luck with that.Do you hate the guy? I'm in a league with my brother and my brother-in-law and I've never thought twice about it. We all get along great outside of FF, though.

:lmao: Great stuff man. Anyways, I think it's okay to do. Just make sure you treat him as any other member when looking to add him....make sure he respects the game and would be a valuable addition to the league. Ask for references from previous leagues. May sound corny, I know, but I've always felt that's a wise thing to do, especially if everyone in the league cares about it. As far as trading goes, I would'nt think it should be a problem to still trade w/ the guy. If it's a legit trade, the league should'nt have any beef with it, regardless of the parties involved.

I wouldn't have a local league if it wasn't for family and close friends.

12-Team League:

Myself

My first cousin

My first cousin's older brother

My good buddy

My good buddy's younger brother

My other good buddy

My other good buddy's best friend

I'm in a league with two brothers in it. Been going since 2000. At one point there were two cousins as well but 1 had to bail. Was too much for him....

It's not a big deal. And don't limit yourself by not trading with him. If he turns out to be a chump and you fleece him with the first trade he ever makes so maybe you should sit back and let someone else fleece him if he's a chump....

It would only both me if it was an auction league. I was in a start up auction league where two guys were friends and it was obvious that they weren't bidding against each other.

How comfy is your sofa? Because with that mentality, you'll be sleeping there alot....LOLNo biggie having relatives in the league. I was in one with my cousin and the first time we traded, one owner complained that I was getting too good a deal. By the end of the season, it was obvious that my cousin had in fact gotten the better deal. If someone complains about your brother in law, just remind them that you intend to do to him, what he's doing to your sister....LOL

The key is that you have to be very careful about any deals with him as they will be scrutinized more than any other deals. Outside of that no issue as friends are as tight as some relatives

This cracked me up.I don't think it's a big deal at all. You know yourself... can you treat any situation related to him objectively? If not, don't think you should have him join.

Thanks guys. I don't hate the kid...just don't like my wifes ###### being co-commish.
Smizzyfor everything that is holy....I hope the 'misses' misses this thread---it might remain cold up there in Middletown waayyy into the summer!

Are you guys kidding me? She would rather gouge her eyes out with a spoon than be on a Fantasy Football message board.

Infact...when I need time to myself I tell her I have FF stuff to do...that usually buys me 3 or 4 hours of peace and quiet!!!

I'm in a league with my dad and we also have two brothers in the league. It's not a big deal. As long as you don't do favors because he's your BIL then you're okay. Your league really is okay with it.

I have no problem with this at all. We have a father-in-law/son-in-law in our league along with two brothers and IMO it makes it far better. The competition between them makes the league even better.

I'm in a league with my dad and I think it is a disadvantage to myself rather than the rest of the league. I would never make a trade with my dad where I thought I was getting a much better deal (I mean really screwing him), but obviously that's what I strive for against the other members.

I am going to be the dissenting voice and say that if I were in your league I would be concerned. Part if it depends on you, as others have said, and if your reputation is beyond spotless then it could work. I would want to know what your trade approval process and you might consider letting the league vote on any trade involving the two of you as a way to put people at ease.

All of the above assumes it is $$$ league; if not, then it really isn't that big of a deal.

I let my league mates vote on trades.

I am in a league with my Dad & 2 cousins. The others give us a hard time saying "the fix is in". :thumbup:But the league has been together for 4 years now with 4 different winners so there is no fix.. Just a LOT of fun during the "off season" when we see each other at family gatherings.
