Saints cut Jay Foreman and Colby Buckwoldt, place Tommy Polley on IR

On the surface, seems to be good news for Alfred Fincher winning the MLB gig, though it's now reported that Mark Simoneau will be the man there. More likely, it means the Saints know help is on the way in the form of Donnie Edwards.

Texans cut Sam Cowart, place Kailee Wong on the PUP list

No surprise here with Cowart. Hard to see how he catches on in a meaningful role with a new team (except maybe the Saints  ). I guess Wong's recovery wasn't as miraculous as it originally appeared.

Eagles place Chris Gocong on IR

Worth noting for those of you in deep leagues that can stash him on IR instead of cutting him.

Patriots cut Monty Beisel

Mildly surprising since Barry Gardner broke his leg this week, but it could be confirmation that Tedy Bruschi may be able to play despite having hardware in his wrist.

Panthers cut Keith Adams

Diggs must be healthy and Adams isn't very good.

Raiders cut Danny Clark, place Darnell Bing on IR

Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard are rock solid stable now. Probably hurts Bing's development considerably. Clark could certainly end up someplace else -- like the Saints. :D

Buccaneers cut Donte Nicholson

Maybe this is mildly surprising only to me, but I thought Nicholson had a future as a thumper. Never improved enough in coverage to play in that scheme. Will be interested to see if he catches on someplace else.

Bears cut Michael Haynes

Another Penn State player thought to be full of promise who busted.

Titans cut Terna Nande

Interesting project and probably practice squad material. With Stephen Tulloch way ahead of him, probably doesn't have much of a future.

Jaguars cut James Wyche

Interesting. I thought that guy looked pretty good against the twos in a couple of games. Another practice squad guy with a future maybe.

Cardinals cut Lance Mitchell

:bag:

I read Robert McCDune and Lance Mitchell were cut ... two LB flyers from last year w/ confirmation of not panning out ...

This effectively eliminates any competition that Ryans may have had, correct?

Seems insignificant, but Willie Offord's release is interesting to me for two reasons.

Offord is a good football player.

Greg Blue, a rookie expected to be moved from SS to LB, has had a nice camp at SS and under the radar. Smoot and Winfield have both praised him primarily for being a big hitter. He also brings an interesting threat to EJ Henderson as I read they like him at LB on 3rd downs. Who knows, he may never see the field. I didn't expect him to make a roster, but he has at Offord's expense and with some praise.

Along the same lines as my Offord/Blue thinking above...

Michael Haynes being cut and Mark Anderson sticking is also interesting. A different case to be sure, but Lovie was very excited about Anderson, who then went on to spend the whole summer hurt. I guess this is a case of keeping the unknown because they don't like what they know about the known.

Anderson registered a sack against D'Brick in the Senior Bowl, and is a true freak athlete in this draft. He didn't get the pub as the earlier draft picks, but the Bears DEs aren't exactly explosive athletes and Anderson is. Bears monitoring as he gets healthy.

There was talk earlier in the offseason about Anderson as a linebacker (with Briggs out). Is this now out of the question?

Being out since very early in camp, all they've done was look at him as a pass rusher so far. Where it goes from there?

I would definately say that Anderson move to linebacker is done for this year. The Bears kept 6 linebackers, and with the questions about Alex Brown's health there is not a lot of depth at end. While Boone and Idonije can both play outside I think they are better at DT.I had expected Haynes would get cut/traded, but after Brown's injury this came into question. Hopefully it means good things for Brown. I can see Haynes being productive for a team, similar to all of Denver's reclamation projects last year. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in Denver or possibly with Buffalo where Jauron loves to bring back his average players.
