Report: Marcus McNeill back with Chargers? (1 Viewer)

According to agent David Canter, OT Marcus McNeill has resigned with the Chargers.

Canter is an agent, not a reporter, and we are currently working to confirm the story. If true, this is great news for Philip Rivers and the entire Chargers offense. Sep. 25 - 1:32 pm et

Still trying to find other sources...

eligible week 7 v. NE according to Schefter. so, until then...
Roto is saying week 6
According to agent David Canter, OT Marcus McNeill has re-signed with the Chargers and reported to the team.McNeill has only signed his one-year tender, not a long-term contract. McNeill will not be available to play until Week 6 against the Rams, as he was placed on the roster exempt list back in August. The offense has struggled to establish a rhythm in McNeill's absence, and his return makes Philip Rivers an even better fantasy quarterback. WR Vincent Jackson is now the Chargers' only holdout. That makes things interesting. Dombrowski is playing too well (so far) to be removed from the lineup. Maybe he'll move over to right tackle, but he's been playing on the left side all offseason and through training camp.

Clary better become more consistent pretty fast. (And no more false starts.)

How does this affect the OL? I know nothing of the Chargers OL.....but does it get reshuffled(does the current LT slide inside to Guard or to RT).

How much will this improve the run game and pass game?

It probably won't help the running game. Dombrowski is starting at LT right now and has been playing great. He played on the right side last year and was inconsistent as a pass-blocker. He's a better player than Clary, who is currently at RT.

I hope VJ isn't far behind

ETA: I know Chargers fans dont think so, but I do... This cat might be differnece between the superbowl and an early playoff exit.

Talk about coming back to the team with your negotiated tail between your legs...
I would go back with my tail between my legs for $630,000 to play 9-10 games vs not playing and getting $0.
Honestly. The second he gets injured he could just sit out. Kinda of a last FU to the bolts. Methinks this offseasons shennanigans will make it difficult for SD to sign quality free agents in the future.

Fixed. We'll have to wait and see if another deal is reached before McNeil steps on the field and evaluate the deal vs. waht they saved by having him miss training camp and 6 games vs. what the y saved by playing hardball. If Rivers gets hurt by a blindside blitzer before mcNeil plays the "scoreboard" will change drastically.

per Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post:

McNeill's request to have original tender of $3.168M restored was rejected. 2010 compensation will now be $444,000 (37k for 12 weeks).

Do you think milking a phantom injury would be a wise strategic move for a player with a history of injury problems looking for a big payday in the offseason?

Only you would know it's a phantom imjury. Frankly I think it's about as ethically as AJ smith acted. Wow is he gonna have fun next year wooing free agents.

They don't sign many free agents anyway, let alone impact ones where it would make a difference.

So would it be wise to present himself as legitimately injured to prospective teams? or should he tell them he faked it? Explain the logic behind it. AJ Smith has been the GM for the Chargers since 2003. He has always had a reputation of being a hard ### towards his players (see Gates). In 2009, NFL players were asked which team other than their own they would most like to play for..

What is the most popular NFL team among the league's players?

Cowboys, 11.%

Chargers 8.5%

Steelers, 7.0%

Dolphins, 6.6%

Patriots, 5.9%
Even though there are rarely big players in free agency, I think they will somehow survive.

Vincent Jackson: "I just want to play football."Marcus McNeill: "Let me show you how this is done."
Really? I'm not convinced. This is the kind of thing that eats away at you 20 years later. He will almost certainly come to regret allowing himself to be humiliated.

Marcus McNeill: "I just want get paid what I'm worth to play football."Vincent Jackson: "Let me show you how this is done."
Yeah, that's my point. When Vincent Jackson said, "I just want to play football," he left out the less sympathetic-sounding part: what he really wants is a truckload of money. (Not that I blame him. I wouldn't mind a truckload of money, myself. But it's somewhat disingenuous to say "I just want to play football" when he's the one who refused to sign the $3.3 million tender — as far as I know, the highest qualifying tender offered to a restricted free agent in the history of the league.)

See, I don't see why these player put so much trust in their agents. Both got horrible advice and could have made 6x what McNeil signed for. Then subtract the $ from a 3 game suspension. Sad, just sad. I would fire both agents tomorrow. Players need to think for themselves and perhaps say, "I have 2 DUI's and a 3 game suspension to serve, maybe now is not a good time to hold out for more $$."

If McNeil gets in shape over the next 3 weeks, plays well and remains healthy for another 3-5 weeks, I think he'll get a long term deal. He's had zero off the field problems and showing up and signing the reduced tender is a sign of good faith.

Dombrowski will move over to RT and McNeil will be back at LT.

Obviously just my opinion, but had McNeil signed the original tender, not held out at all, and played well through the first 2-3 games, I think he would be on the verge of signing a 4-5 year deal within the next week or two.

McNeill will help Rivers and wrs.

Hurts Gates a little.

The wrs will have more time for slower developing routes.

McNeill will play hard (imo) because:

He wants to get this year as an eligibility year in the NFL to cover his bases for the new CBA.

He is still getting a lot of money for half a year of football.

Playing professional football is fun and he misses it.
