Any recently retired and relocated?  Should be retired within 2 calendar years and looking to move from the north suburbs of Chicago - to some place like Nashville.

Any success stories?  Any learnings to share?

I transferred down south years ago when the right opportunity came up.  I am in Little Rock, Arkansas and love it here.  I was in Ohio/PA.  

Nashville is great, so are many places in the Carolinas if you are still looking for the 4 seasons with some snow.  We already had friends in the area - so I don't know how it would work for you if there wasn't any ready social scene for you two.  

I would look into the taxes, weather, quality of life and lots to do in your own areas of interest.

Standard warning: the south is full of southerners. Takes some gittin used to - i never could.

ETA: More bucolic the area, the greater the chance 'em ol' boys find a way to #### up y'all's life.

This is our plan so I'm interested in others' experiences as well. We currently live in Dallas and plan to relocate to Lake Tahoe (Nevada side) in 4-5 years for retirement. We think we have a pretty good plan but learning from other's successes and/or mistakes would be welcomed.

sort of.  We're in bama, but aside from a required affinity for a certain football team, this is practically northern Virginia.
