Rex Grossman predicts Redskins will win NFC East (1 Viewer)

I think they're going to be a .500ish team. Probably, somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. I don't think they make the playoffs. I expect somewhat similar results for the Redskins, which is why I'm not worried about Philly.
Haha, 7-9? Really dude, 7-9. You expect the Eagles to potentially finish 7-9. Based on the off season additions made to this team, you are actually projecting them to digress from 11 wins in '09 and 10 wins last year to 7 wins this year. Not to mention have only the second losing record this decade. You are crazier than a ####house rat. Thanks for the laughs my man-we will agree to disagree. Good luck on the coming season.

Dexter Manley's comments in this thread are getting eerily similar to the thread started by another one of my fellow Skins fans early last season stating that there was "No way you couldn't call the McNabb trade a disaster for the Eagles."

It's bad enough that I have to deal with Dan Snyder as an owner. Let's not give all Skins fans a bad name as well.

I wish I had your confidence. Life long Skins fan, and I'd be amazed if we didn't finish dead last.I also see the Eagles winning the division.
This is what I find interesting. I won't quibble with anyone who thinks the Eagles are the most talented team in the division. They are. But I'm not sure the Cowboys or the Giants are in all that good a shape. The Giants have been fairly consistent contenders on the strength of a terrific front seven on defense and nice, cohesive OL. Neither unit looks as strong as it once was. Eli Manning is a decent QB who sometimes impersonates an awful QB. The running backs are good but not great. The Cowboys didn't play very well last year, particularly on defense. They have great pieces for the passing game, but an OL that still needs to prove a lot. Romo, while certainly a better QB than anything the Skins have, really hasn't improved in years. The defense was downright awful last year, with a lot of riding on a new coordinator. Now, call me crazy, but Wade Phillips has had a lot of very, very good defenses. Maybe the players quit listening, but I don't think you can pin it all on coaching. I don't see how the Cowboys have improved their personnel. The Redskins will presumably have less drama than last year. The front seven is undoubtedly improved . Cofield is a proven quality player. All reports suggest Jarvis Jenkins might have been a steal. I think the secondary is also improved, provided that Otogwe can stay healthy (even considering the injury problems with Landry, who I frankly find terribly overrated). Last year, the Redskins had one of the very worst defenses I've even seen and generally bad QB play. They finished 6-10. Almost every game was close. If the defense only improves to "below average" and the offensive line improves a bit, they're a significantly better team. Not a 10 win team, but better. So maybe I'm a homer, but I honestly see the NFC East as the Eagles and everybody else. And that's ignoring that the right key injury to any team can change that equation.

Dexter, let me see if I can put what you are trying to say in different words:

When teams add a lot of free agents, even if they extremely talented, the team is not always better because there are

too many new faces to get assimilated and working on the same page in too short a period of time.

I agree, for all the hype the Eagles are getting, there will be quite a bit of transition, especially on defense, and this could

cause the Eagles to have about the same record as last year. Personally, I have a hard time seeing that they will be worse, with

all the talent they do have. But I do understand the point you are trying to make.

Several positives for the Eagles that have not been mentioned: Vick will have a full training camp to work with the first team offense. He

has not worked with the first team offense in training camp in the prior two years. This should help him get much more comfortable in the Eagles

offense. The Eagles also hired two of the best line coaches in the offseason: Washburn on defense from the Titans, and Mudd on offense from the

Colts. Both of these guys should elevate the play at those positions as they had top units over a long period of time with their former teams.

Sort of similar to NO in the 2008 offseason. The Saint got rid of their D coordinator and brought in Greg Williams (Eagles get a new D coordinator Juan Castillo). Then they signed Darren Sharper who ended up as an all-pro (Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha). They also signed defensive guys in Jabari Greer CB, Paul Spicer DT, Pierson Prioleau SS and Anthony Hargrove DT (Eagles sign Jenkins, Hargrove, Babin, Page, Landri). The Saints also brought in depth offensive guys Kyle Eckel FB, Nick Leckey C and Darnell Dinkins TE (Brown, Harris, Young, Higgins, Lee).
No, they're not similar at all. You're really comparing the signing of Darren Sharper to the signing of Aso?And Greg Williams was already established as one of the best DC's in the league (who had head coaching experience as well) when he came to NO. You're seriously comparing him to Castillo, who has never been a DC? Actually, I'm under the impression he has always been an offensive coach. Is this not his first year coaching on the defensive side of the ball?
It's irrelevant to even argue the point of Sharper v. Asomugha. The point was that the Saints added a bunch of FAs that offseason and won the Superbowl. The fact that the Eagles added someone of Asomugha's caliber shouldn't be viewed as a negative. Juan Castillo has a defensive background and started his coaching career on the defensive side. And the comparision of Williams and Castillo is that the systems that the player were learning were both somewhat new.

If no one in the shark pool knew what actually happened recently in FA recently and I gave them these facts, what team do you think would get the most guesses as being behind these moves?

- Signed the premiere FA on the market, a CB who's about to turn 30 whose own team didn't really even try to retain him, to a huge deal with lots of guaranteed $.

- Overpaid a one year wonder DE who's on the wrong side of 30.

- Signed an oft injured DT coming off a career year when he knew he would hit FA, to more $$$ than any other team was offering (who will turn 30 in January).

- Signed a QB, who got cut by the team that drafted him 3rd overall because he's an immature headcase, to a 1 year nearly 5 million dollar deal.

- Signed other "name" FA's that aren't very good to 1 year deals.
You forgot to add:- Hasn't sniffed the top spot in the NFC East in over a decade.

Then I would say the Redskins.

That's why your logic and the comparison is flawed. Even if every one of those FA acquisitions do NOTHING this year for the Birds (which is ridiculous to say) they are still the same team that won the division last year and have been in the running year after year for the entirety of Reid's tenure. The redskins at their core are not good. Adding a big name FA won't change that. The eagles have been the class of the division, winning 6 out of the last 10 NFC East titles.

Not the same at all.
How many teams that have gone on a FA binge like this have followed it up by having a successful season (i.e. playoffs)? And what the Eagles did 10 or even 5 years ago has absolutely nothing to do with what's happening this season. How many of the same players are even still on Philly from 5 years ago? Talk about horribly flawed logic...
You keep going back to this and it's flawed thinking. The Eagles were/are already a playoff team without those FA moves. The offense is basically the same except for the addition of Brown (and RBs have a traditionally low learning curve). They put up monster numbers last year and there is no reason to believe they won't now unless you're predicting Vick goes down for the season week 3. On D, most of the main components are still there except they added the best pass rushing DT on the market, the best CB in football and a DE coming off a pro bowl season. They also get Brandon Graham back and traded for a CB that's a year removed from a PB appearance that's going to be their NICKLE CB.
Update?

The defense improved to "below average". The offensive line improved a bit. They went 5-11 in a bad division.
Rex Grossman had 20 interceptions. John Beck had 4 interceptions. Grossman lost 5 fumbles. Beck lost 1 fumble. That’s a combined 30 turnovers for the two quarterbacks Mike Shanahan put his reputation on.

As a lifelong Redskins fans who spent 3 years listening to Chicago sportstalk radio when Grossman was there I can say three things with great confidence:1) The Skins will NOT win the division2) Grossman is a bad QB (adequate backup, horrible starter)3) Grossman is an idiot
3 for 3
