Rick Gosselien's 2nd mock (1 Viewer)

Gosselin does his mocks only by speaking with his contacts in the league. He doesn't study any of the players... doesn't watch any film, doesn't read anything about them, and generally doesn't let anything about the potential draft pick cloud his judgment of where they will be chosen. His first mock (4/15) is done simply for the newspaper's benefit. He has said before in interviews that he doesn't like doing early mocks but is more or less forced into it by his superiors. The second mock (4/22) is done based on need more than anything. For this mock he will put some players in places where they will more than likely not end up (see Russell in Cleveland) for sh-ts and grins. The third mock (Fri/Sat of this week) is the one he really uses his good info to create. It obviously will be the most accurate being that it's right up to draft day. Look for quite a few changes between this week's mock and the real deal that will be unveiled this weekend.Gosselin :)
Doesn't all this beg the question, why doesn't Gosselin put his best information into each of his mocks? And secondly, why would a guy put his name on something that he doesn't really believe in?

To answer the first: Why would he show his hand 2 weeks early? That's silly. It doesn't sell newspapers, either. To answer the second: It sells newspapers. His editors more or less force him to do it.He has the best sources in the biz and his mocks are historically some of the most accurate. But you have to wait for his final mock to get his real opinion based on his best information.

No., Team Player Pos. College 22. Dallas Michael Griffin S Texas COMMENT: Best special-teamer in the draft
I like Michael Griffin a lot, but why would the Cowboys take a safety in the first round. Roy Williams is entrenched at SS, they just signed Ken Hamlin in the offseason, and are bringing back both of the guys (Pat Watkins - rook last season, Keith Davis) that rotatd at FS last season.Great, Griffin is the best special teams player in the draft... I'd hope we could get more contribution out of our first rounder. This, being projected from a Dallas sports writer. I have a lot of respect for the Goose, but this seems a little :)

I think the Cowboys could look at a safety early. Griffin seems a shaky fit, though, as I don't remember seeing many reports that he suggest he's any better in coverage than what they currently have. First round seems early regardless.

Another mock that has Nelson to the Jags. Is this looking like a lock? I have him going there also but there seems to be no dissenting opinions. No WR?
If the "lack of football smarts" rumor is true, and I suspect it is, then Nelson needs to play in a simplified secondary scheme. Does Jax qualify?
No.Last year they ran all different kinds of schemes. Deon Grant, when pressed about his years in Jacksonville by the Seattle media in his initial press conference, said, "With the system I've been in (Jacksonville), I might be playing strong one minute, the next I might be playing free," he said. "I might be in the box for 10 plays straight. The next minute I might be deep, might be playing cover-2. it really alternates back and forth, strong and free." He also noted that he felt comfortable and experienced in other coverages.Interesting note on Nelson. I hadn't heard that until this weekend.
2 things to remember:1) Gosselin doesn't watch tape, he talks to NFL personnel.2) 2 years ago, Gosselin was the ONLY person I saw who correctly predicted Matt Jones to the Jags. I'm thinking he may have a good read on Jacksonville. We'll see what his final mock says.

It may have been asked already!

When does Gosselin's final mock come out? Saturday morning or Friday evening?

Saturday morning. He has updated his top 100, which is very telling, in and of itself.
Let's assume the top 5 is the predicted order of the picks. (and I'm not saying one should - its just an exercise) They don't seem to match up with the teams. In particular he has Brady Quinn slotted in at #5. That's where Arizona is. Quinn to the Cardinals obviously makes no sense. So the Cardinals trade out of that spot? To where? I'd assume they trade down as someone moves up to grab him?

I don't get the point of the exercise.
