Riley contest- Winner is johnnyrock (1 Viewer)

Sorry guys. Have to take her for a blood test this morning. I thought the bill was ridiculous but most of you blew way past it. The number was appx $308k. I'll get the exact amount and the winner when I come back from hospital.
I didnt check closely enough to say for sure, but Henry Ford's $325 is looking pretty good.

Your BIL owes 500k?
Oh no. Insurance has this covered but they owe for past medical bills (co-pays, deductibles, etc) leading up to the surgery, and this will leave him out of work for up to 3 months. He's the primary wage earner and being a blue collar worker means no work/no pay. He's been suffering through this since 2009. Very hopeful for the outcome.

Just to verify, this is just the bill from the hospital itself, not any bills from any specific doctors (which would be separate and additional)?

yes just the hospital itself which is what I said in the OP. Here is the itemized list:

Non-routine nursery: $253814.57

Nursery: $7500

Operating Room: $5365

Medical Diagnostic tests: $1604

Radiology: $2107

Anesthesiology: $2139

Radiology: $7419

Radiology: $300

Pathology: $10551

Pathology: $4602

Pathology: $457

Pathology: $109

Pathology: $74

Pathology: $417

Physical Therapy: $804

Supplies: $132.40

Radiology: $2796

Drugs (Prescription): $7951.75

Total damage: $308,142.72

Even if you add the doctors bills it won't come anywhere near some of the guesses in this thread.

Wow.  When my daughter was in the NICU for six weeks in 2000, it only cost $40k and she didn't have any of the problems that Riley had.  She was just born too damn early.  Kind of surprised the amount is low $300k.

Pretty awesome that she's well enough that there's a light hearted thread about her that's not full of T&P!!

Worth every penny

$300 copayment
I'm really glad to hear this!

My wife, just five days before my son was born switched from a plan that had us paying 20% of everything to having babies free first two years.

He was in ICU for four months, three open heart surgeries.  Only bill I've seen to this day was when he was transferred from Kaiser to CH of LA for his last surgery. It covered one week and was $100,089.  My best guess now 19 years later is that he's at $2-3 million.

Can't wait to see the Riley Disney pics in a few years!

And from all that you got a beautiful baby girl with a fantastic chance at living a long, long fulfilling life.  Bargain at twice the price.

Stories like these make me very thankful that so many dedicated, smart, and compassionate people choose to be healthcare providers over other careers where they could make more money.
