RIP Moses Malone (1 Viewer)

Absolutely did not realize he won *three* MVPs. Now that's impressive.
One of the more under-the-radar superstars.
I heard someone compare him to Stan Musial in that regard. They were both so good, so consistent for so long, but lacked any drama or famous highlight, that they got taken for granted.
Wow - I know a lot more about baseball history than I do that of the ABA/NBA, but I think that's an outstanding comparison.

Dude was a stud - one of the original straight-from-hs-to-the-pros players. I remember how he used to give Kareem fits back in the day.
I think he may have been the very first high school baller to go pro (ABA/NBA), actually. Perhaps I read that wrong.

The first high school player to go pro was Joe Grabowski, in 1948. After that, there was Reggie Harding, who was drafted in 1962 (but the NBA forced him to sit out a year). Moses Malone was drafted by the ABA in 1974, then Darryl Dawkins and Bill Willoughby were drafted into the NBA in 1975. After that, there were no direct-from-high-school players until Kevin Garnett.
