Rockies Owner: We're still a better team than the Red Sox. (1 Viewer)

No one was more excited about the Rockies' magical run than their owner, Charlie Monfort. In fact, maybe he got a little too excited.

Monfort insisted after Game 4 of the World Series that the Rockies are a better team than the Boston Red Sox, a team that outscored them 29-10 in a four-game Series sweep.

"These guys did amazing things," Monfort said. "I think this team is a better team than Boston. It would have been nice to have another two, three, four days. We'll wake up tomorrow and go, 'There's no baseball game to go to,' but what a deal they did. It's an amazing thing they accomplished just to get here."

They were amazing, all right. But better than the Red Sox?

"I think so," said Monfort. "How did we win 21 out of 22? We got the breaks. And I think they got the breaks. Are they a better team? I don't think so. You give us 10 games against them, we'll beat them six."

I guess the rockies were JUST ABOUT to reel off 6 straight against the Sox when some jackass ended the series.

He's their owner. Of course he's a giant  . Not sure why this is unexpected or noteworthy.

I'm not sure why anyone would publicly want to come out and say this. It's a bit like an NFC team saying that with more chances they'd beat the AFC team in the Super Bowl. This year the AL was better than the NL, so running off a winning streak against decent but not great teams is not the same thing as if they did that in the AL and in the AL playoffs.

Not knocking the Rockies, but they did not win a single game and anyone saying they were the better team at this point is only going to look foolish. It's not like they got cheated out of 4 games.

I think the games were closer than the casual fan would realize or the Boston homer would admit.... I can't see how he thinks that Colorado is the better team.

NOTE TO BOSTON: This isn't a slight to you...so don't let your sons get their panties in a bunch and start complaining about a lack of respect.

Because he's the owner? He has more invested (in every sense) in the team than anybody else. Sure it was a dumb statement, but his team just won 22 out of 23. Sure it was a shock to him.

2 of the games were 1 run games but similar to when the Pats beat the Eagles by 3 in the SB, at no point did it seem like the Rockies were going to win any of those 4 games. This series was a sweep in the truest sense of the word.

While this series had some tense moments....

1) This was the largest Cumulative Margin of Victory of any WS Sweep in history.

2) The Rockies never led at any point.. not even for a half inning.

(stats from SOSH)

I agree that he's inclined to be a big homer... but making a statement like this is ridiculous. If theo said this after getting swept he'd be getting crucified here.

Panties aren't in wad however.. just found it pretty funny

Epstein's a GM, this guy's an owner. Apples and oranges.

Okay. Henry or Lucchino.... damn man. You know what I'm sayin. Anyone associated wtih the upper eschelon of the organization. I realize GMs are baseball guys and owners typcically know less than nothing.

Between this and their attempt to trademark "Rocktober", this guy is the am ##### of the month. He fields a team in a ridiculous park with their stupid humidor, enough alright from him!

lol.

the "if we played them ___ times, we would beat them ___" is pretty much my favorite sour grapes sentence in sports.

What's so bad about the humidor? That park was even more ridiculous without it.BTW, I agree that the remarks are toolish.

Didn't TO pretty much say this after the Patriots beat the Cowboys?

Not true. In Game 2 the Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning; the Sox didn't tie it until the bottom of the fourth. If games only lasted three innings, that series would have been tied.[/monfort]

This is pretty damn accurate.
