What should I do with my IR slot?

  • Replace Robinson with Rodgers on IR

  • Just drop Rodgers. You're not going to need him.

  • Keep them both around. Drop someone else (say who in comment) and pickup another QB.

I'm in a 2 QB league with the following QBs: Rodgers, Smith, Taylor. It's a keeper league with 1 IR slot that I already have filled with Allen Robinson. Given the rules of the league, I would be able to keep Robinson next year by giving up a 7th round draft pick. I cannot keep Rodgers. Because Smith hasn't had his bye, I will need another QB for at least one week and an injury could, of course, happen at any time to my two starters. I'm trying to decide if I should give up Robinson (his keeper status will follow him so anyone picking him up will get the same option) and stash Rodgers on IR for the playoff weeks 15-16.

A few additional pieces of relevant information, in case the answer is just "drop someone else instead" or "just bail on Rodgers":

  • I'm only 3-4, so playoffs aren't a sure thing by any means. But after some recent trades, I've mostly turned my season around (until Rodgers got hurt) and I'm on a 3 game winning streak and consistently putting up top numbers. I won't bother you with all the minutia of how our playoff spots are decided but let's say I'm sitting at about a 33% chance of making it and rising. Cautiously optimistic. However, even if I miss the playoffs, the better a team in this league performs in consolation earns them a better draft pick next year, so doing well in weeks 15-16 is important to all teams.
  • The starting requirements are 2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 PK, 1 D/ST, 18 person roster + 1 IR, PPR
  • The rest of my team: Melvin Gordon, Alvin Kamara, Ty Montgomery, Javorius Allen, Bilal Powell, Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Demaryius Thomas, Tyreek Hill, Adam Thielen, T.Y. Hilton, Cameron Brate, Jordan Reed, Wil Lutz, Jacksonville Jaguars (will need a BYE D/ST this week too)
  • QBs on wire (not much): Josh McCown, Jacoby Brissett, Case Keenum, DeShone Kizer, Jay Cutler
There's probably a lot more factors that could be considered (like the possible keeper value of everyone else relative to Robinson), but I'll just leave it here.

What would you do? I'm leaning Rodgers on IR, but that's mainly because I have no real sense if Robinson will have 7th round value next year (meaning he's not really a keeper after all).

How many are you allowed to hold onto? You have a lot of wr depth, and I would favor holding Rodgers if you can keep a handful of those wr1s.

If you are limited by how many you can keep I would move Robinson to a team with an empty IR for upgraded picks.

Smith and Taylor give you decent play each week. Keenum and Brissett could be waiver adds for good matchups.

yeah it depends on how many you can keep, and what their costs are.  If Robinson at a 7 doesn't hinder you from keeping some of those others, then I'd be inclined to say hold him but you've got other good keeper options as well.

Thanks for the replies. I can keep up to 3 players. The possible keepers are (along with the minimum draft pick required):

  • Smith (14)
  • Taylor (6)
  • Gordon (10)
  • Kamara (12)
  • Thielen (12)
  • Hill (10)
  • Reed (8)
  • Allen (12)
  • Montgomery (5)
  • Powell (12)
  • Fitzgerald (5)
  • Thomas (3)
  • Brate (12)
  • Robinson (7)

FWIW, I fully plan to drop Montgomery in tonight's waivers for a bye week defense (targeting PHI then CIN) since I want to hold JAC. Given his high keeper requirement and current backup production, I'm not feeling him.

I would not give up Robinson to hope for a playoff return of Rodgers. doing damage to yourself next season by hoping for a qb to return for playoffs.

Since you cannot keep Rodgers, Robinson on IR stash is a good move. Gordon is a stash. Between Robinson and Demaryius, Arob gives you the potential of a much higher ROI for a 7th rounder than Thomas at a 3rd.

Thanks. For now, that's what I'll do. I'm under no pressure at the moment to drop Rodgers or anyone for that matter until Smith's bye. I can see where things stand then.
