Some other quick observations from the final minicamp practice:

- The team spent this session working on third-down situations, so we saw even more creativity from the defense than usual. We saw them line up in both 4-3 and 3-4 alignments, along with various nickel and dime packages - one which included three linemen, two linebackers and six defensive backs.

Clearly, if nothing else, we'll see plenty of versatility from this new-look defense under coordinator Gregg Williams in 2009.

- As we've chronicled many times in recent months, the Saints are clearly trying to establish a lot more energy and intensity on defense. We saw a new drill this morning that goes along with that theme. All of the defensive players got together and broke down into groups of five. Three loose balls were thrown out on the field and they went into a free-for-all trying to scoop them up. The two players who didn't get the ball had to do drop into a series of up-downs. ... It was like a grown-up version of "musical chairs."

- One guy who could emerge in this new defense is fourth-year strong safety Roman Harper, who has been blitzing like crazy during the weekend practices. Columnist Jeff Duncan will discuss him at length in his column for tomorrow's paper.

He got to Brees quickly on one play that would have been a sack if they were live tackling.

Harpers strength has always ben run support and tackling. I see this as a good use of him. He isn't the greatest in pass coverage. I see this as a really good thing for him.

this is an understatement.
I'm thinking about stealing your avatar. Love that skit.Oh, and it's great to get some added confirmation that Harper will have more big play chances this year. Here's the followup article mentioned in the blog.
