Romo over-rated? (1 Viewer)

Is it just me or does Romo deserve all the praise he gets? I swear, he kills a team (NFL or Fantasy) as much as he helps them. Would he be a successful qb on most teams or just a handful? I just think he is way too careless with the ball for the Cowboys to go anywhere in the playoffs. Turnovers kill teams and he makes a ton.

Definitely not imo. I actually think the "playoff choke" rep he has is grossly exaggerated if anything. OK he choked on the FG hold. In order to be in a position to do that, he had to take his team down the field in what is supposedly the loudest/toughest stadium in the league. Prior to that, the Cowboys offense wasn't considered so talented when Bledsoe was in there. Certainly a better playoff debut than Eli's home shutout loss to Carolina.

Against the Giants he was "meh" - but of course so was Brady.

Somehow Rivers is a big-game guy because Tennessee couldn't do squat offensively and Volek beat the Colts....whatever.

Take TO out and you will find how good Romo really is....which is not much. See Skins game last year. If you got Romo in dynasty, hope TO stays there and is healthy for a while.

I don't think Romo is a bad QB however is anything but a clutch QB. He seems to lack the leadership and ability to put his team on his shoulders when the game is on the line. Until I see him do something great in the playoffs, I will continue to have this opinion.

Romo is the Arod of the NFL. His stats are great when it doesn't count but he makes some really dumb plays and disappears when it counts.

He's the starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys...being overrated is unavoidable... BUT, I do think he is a good NFL QB

What are we talking about? NFL/FF? He plays in a high octane offense and is usually a top5 projection almost every week...and Dalas is up 13-6 last time I checked too. Is Rodgers also overrated?

The guy's a f'in genius at avoiding the rush, which is at least 50% of the battle in the NFL. His numbers are off the chart good for a guy starting a career. He's got a great arm and great receivers and a pretty damnd great offense. It's a recipe for fantastic fantasy success.

But, yeah, he's marginally overrated...

He reminds me of Jeff George except George had a monster arm and looked pissed all the time.

Well maybe he's more Stan Gelbaugh than Jeff George, hard to say.

There may be some truth to that, but I think it also leads to more criticism than if he were on another team. I think where the "Dallas = overrated" factor comes into play is when people talk about them as playoff failures as if they've been the top seed in the conference for 10 years. They sucked for a while pre-Parcells. They lost when they were favored once last year. Cowher's Steelers did it about 50 times and it wasn't talked about as much on a national level.

Romo is a good QB I have to say he is up there in the top 10 QB's in the league. He has some good vision and can do some improvising on the field that helps him out. I say all of that but you have to look at the Dallas offense as a whole. He is very fortunate to be on team with a top 5 offensive line, a top 5 WR a top 5 TE and probably a top 10 RB all on the same team. So when you combine all of that with a fanbase and popularity Dallas has you get a QB that is overated in some people's eyes.

Ya i think he's over rated causs if you got him you had to pay a high price. Cutler is the man this year only if Cutler had that oline Romo does and that running game

The real game......

He's a good QB...but till he wins a playoff game, or anything important for that matter, then yeah, he's overrated.

AS for fantasy...

hell no, he gets it done

Huh? Perhaps you missed the Monday nighter last year? Despite a terrible game Romo still led the team to a victory.

OK that is true he has a ton of talent around him but take him off the team then what. He is the perfect fit on this team most qb's in the NFL would not be able to put the numbers up that he does. He is a top 5 talent at the position. Dallas asks him to do a lot more then most qb's in the NFL could ever do. The guy is good and not scared to fail, he has just not been able to win a playoff game the last two years but guess what that is not all his fault that is a team thing. Ya know look at all the talent around him. They did not perform. Both of them playoff losses were down to the last drive of the game they could very well be 2-0 in them . Get over the two playoff close loses and look at his whole body of work. Believe me when I say the playoff wins will come this team is going through the progression of what a championship team goes through sometimes. Not every team that has won and been successful right away. Dallas is building a contending team that will be there for the next 4-5 years not a flash in the pan come outa know where championship run. It is a lot harder to be the top dog like Dallas was last year and this year then to just have a good run and win a title right out the gate. Look at what Dallas has become over the last 2 1/2 year sense Romo has become the starter. It is incredible.

He may end up with top 5 numbers this year, but imo in the long haul there are 6 or 7 QBs who are simply better quarterbacks than he is.

That's not really a bad thing; he just a very good not GREAT quarterback.

reminds me of Favre
 I've been saying this for a while and I said it again when he threw that terrible INT at the goal line last night. He did the exact same thing against the Browns.
And Delhomme, and Majkowski, and Grossman, and . . .There are always at least a handful of QB's who are creative and adaptable on the fly in the league at one time, prone to throwing with strange arm angles or off balance. Romo's definitely one of those and he's legitimately good. I agree he doesn't take care of the football, but this isn't Rex Grossman we're talking about here. Romo justifies the risks he makes with his bad plays by making many more good plays. He has impressed me, and I say that wishing it weren't so as a Redskins fan. The guy who Romo reminds me of, as much for his throwing style as for his humble NFL beginnings, is Colt Brennan. I'm wondering whether Brennan can turn into another Romo with a couple of years of learning from the bench (of course, I primarily hope Campbell nails down the job and holds it for a long, long time).

That or Romo makes TO look good.
:goodposting: Without even getting into Romo this statement is quite preplexing. Hasn't TO made evry QB he has ever played with look better? McNabb and Garcia had their best seasons by far teaming up with TO.

Yeah. Delhomme reminds me a bit of Favre too. Although without as high of a potential for great play.Grossman makes a much higher ratio of mistakes to good plays.

I hope Brennan makes it.
