Rookie TEs (1 Viewer)

Lots of talent at the position this year. Don't much like Baltimore & New England each grabbing 2

Code:
Jerm. Gresham	TE	Oklah.	1	21(21)	Cincinnati Bengals
Rob Gronkowski	TE	Arizona	2	10(42)	New England Patriots
Ed Dickson	TE	Oregon	3	6(70)	Baltimore Ravens
Tony Moeaki	TE	Iowa	3	29(93)	Houston Texans
Jimmy Graham	TE	Miami	3	31(95)	New Orleans Saints
A. Hernandez	TE	Florida	4	15(113)	New England Patriots
Dennis Pitta	TE	BYU	4	16(114)	Baltimore Ravens

It's because I was excited about Aaron Hernandez and Dennis Pitta, the two TEs I was looking forward to snagging in rookie drafts. I apparently jinxed them and doomed them to TE purgatory. Apologies.

I think that view is short sighted, both of these guys are not primarily going to have to block on their new teams......they will be there to catch passes so for fantasy purposes, that's what we want....no?

What on earth is Houston doing? They picked Hill and Casey in the 4th and 5th last season, then Moeaki in the third this season... and they've still got RFA rights on Owen Daniels.

Houston also took Garrett Graham in the 4th, another pass catching TE.

Rookie TE's almost never produce in fantasy. Someone step up and correct me if I'm wrong but John Carlson and Shockey are the only two rookie TE's I can come up who caught more than 50 passes their first year.

Keep an eye on the guy the Rams just took, Fendi Onobun. He's one of those converted basketball players who played football for the first time last year.

I believe Pettigrew would have had 50rec if he had not gotten hurt. He had 31 rec through 10 1/2 games, your point is taken though.

Code:
1	John Carlson	2008	24	SEA	NFL	55	627	11.40	5	39.2
2	Cam Cleeland	1998	23	NOR	NFL	54	684	12.67	6	42.8
3	Mike Ditka 1961	22	CHI	NFL	56	1076	19.21	12	76.9
4	Keith Jackson	1988	23	PHI	NFL	81	869	10.73	6	54.3
5	Jeremy Shockey	2002	22	NYG	NFL	74	894	12.08	2	59.6
6	Charle Young	1973	22	PHI	NFL	55	854	15.53	6	61.0

Had to look him up, but wow!
along with his exceptional pro day (4.45-second 40-yard dash, 37.5-inch vertical, 11'1" broad jump)
Unbelievable for a guy 6'6" and 252.

Moeaki went to K.C.

Michael Hoomanawanui is a stud, who would have been an All-American contender if Juice Williams wasn't such an idiot, same can be said for A. Benn, imo...keep an eye on the Rams camp, as this guy was the only reason to watch Illini games(along with Benn and some of the young RB's with pro potential that the Zook conned into coming to UI)...

I know for a fact Hooman can block at an NFL level right now, or at the very least... is extrememly close to that level, and his hands are pretty damn outstanding as well with the speed to boot. Again, just keep an eye on him, I expect to see a TE1 by his name very soon...well, by 2013!

I think Dez Clark is good comparison off the bat, time will tell!

Reports differ on his blocking--some think he has potential but needs to provide more pop--but one thing's consistent in all of them: He's slow and gains little separation. That isn't going to parlay into good fantasy production.

I thought the Bengals were pretty high on Chase Coffman despite him not getting on the field much and heading to IR in December.

:) Yeah, no shot they were THAT high on him.Healthy inactive all day -- even with 20 TE's ahead of him getting hurt. Didn't step onto the field once. Not a good sign. Wouldn't be surprised to see him cut.

That is probably a little extreme. Basically he needs to learn how to block at the NFL level. When the TE depth-chart was Kelly-Utecht-Coffman they probably could break him in at a reasonable pace without him getting too exposed. Once the injuries hit and it was Foschi and Coats and the team's game plan went that much more to power running it just wasn't meant to be for Coffman last year.I would be surprised to see him cut. If he's healthy, you could have a situation where it's Kelly as the #1 and main blocking TE. Having 2 pass-catching TEs in on some sets could produce some interesting match-ups. Btw, I was curious and looked at Tony Gonzalez's career numbers as a guide to what a realistic successful first season would look like for Gresham. Tony G was drafted #13 overall so it's more than an apt comparison. Even Tony G really took 3 years to get to major studliness.1st year: 16 Games, 33 receptions, 368 yards, 11.2 ypc, 2 TD2nd year: 16 Games, 59 receptions, 621 yards, 10.5 ypc, 2 TD3rd year: 16 Games, 76 catches, 849 yards, 11.2 ypc, 11 TD-QG

Adding to your list:Cam Cleeland in 1998Keith Jackson in 1988Going back furtherCharlie Young in 1973Mike Ditka in 1961I think Jackson's 81 receptions is the highest total

Graham and Hernandez are going to be great in a few years. Hernandez maybe quicker. Don't be 100% sure that Gronkowski is the bonafide starter in New England. Hernandez is very talented, had Tebow throwing him the ball, what will he think of Tom Brady?

I like Jimmy Graham and think the combo of Shocky teaching him and Brees throwing it that he stand a good chance to be the #1 in NO in 2012...Shockey might retire at that point or be moved. He has now been a member of 2 SB teams and really didn't do a lot for either team. I love the guy but they don't need to pay him big bucks to win Super Bowls.

NFL.com for some reason did not tranfer Moeaki to the Chiefs. The Texans quietly have emassed a nice cache of TE with injuries, besides Daniels, both Dressen and Hill went through off-season surgery and with HIll his problem coming out was injury, so he might not be long for league because of his body. Dressen has much value as a long snapper as a TE. Daniels also has had three or four knee surgeries between college and the pros, so while there are numbers, it is not as secure as it appears.

Perhaps, but he has no future in Cincy. They have better blocking TE'a and now a better receiving one as well. 2 passing catching TE's seems a bit excessive for a team that doesn't pass to the TE with regularity.Probably heading down the Martin Rucker career path. I wasn't real high on Coffman to begin with. Too stiff IMO, the whole run to a spot and box out the defender doesn't work with great regularity at the NFL level.Bengals got themselves a nice receiving weapon in Gresham.

Agree. Graham in 3 years will be a big deal.
