Recent News/Notes:

Johnny Cueto and Edison Volquez have been named to the Reds opening day staff as the no. 3 and 4 starters respectively... for those who live with their heads buryed in a hole on Mars.

With Willy Mo Pena's recent injury, Elijah Dukes will most likely be in the opening day starting lineup for the Washington National's.

Juan Uribe was recently put on waivers and then pulled back by the Sox... whispers that Uribe may be traded give some credibility to the thought that Alexei Ramirez may be the starting 2B for the Sox to start the year.

Joba Chamberlain has been moved back to the bullpen for all those who stumbled in here thinking it was for more football purposes.

Evan Longoria's destiny lies in the fact that if the Rays send him down they will save one year before Longoria becomes arbitration eligible. It is my opinion that no matter how unpopular it is the best business sense is to send him down for one month and save the one year.

Jeff Niemann was optioned back down to Triple A.

Brian Bocock will be the opening day starter at SS for the lowly Giants... he can't hit and is in the best pitcher's park in the league rush to the waiver wires and get him :sarcasm:

George Sherill was named the Orioles opening day closer, he has the talent but won't get many opportunities for saves IMO.

Nick Adenhart pitched another spring training gem but may be destined to get sent down... he isn't on the teams 40 man roster although keeping him up would mean that the team wouldn't have to waste a roster spot on another reliever with less talent.

A number of those guys e.g. Sherrill, A. Cabrera, Sanchez, Dukes aren't technically rookies.

Kazuo ####umori could be in the mix to close in Texas

What's the eligibility rule? I was kinda going off the top of my head and figured I was wrong about some players.

Eric Hurley lost the no.5 job in Texas.

Edit to add: Fellow rookie Luis Mendoza will take over the no.5 spot for the Rangers.

Evan Longoria and Cameron Maybin were shipped down to the minors.

Jair Jurgens won the no.3 rotation spot for the Braves... he may be keeping it warm for John Smoltz, however.

Jayson Nix won the starting 2B job for the Colorado Rockies, with the designation of Marcus Giles.

Chase Headley was sent down... I find it funny that everyone gives the Rays crap for Longoria but Headley has more experience and a better spring on a competitive team and likely got sent down for the same reason.

Tony Abreu LAD 3B heading for the DL... Dodgers third base situation not looking good.

Headley is learning a new position. Sticking him in LF at Petco with Hairston in CF wouldn't be good for Headley's confidence or the Padres early season chances. I think demoting him to the PCL for a few weeks or months is the right thing to do.I don't think Headley is that great of a prospect. He has good on-base skills but will probably produce below average power at either LF or 3B. He could be a major league regular for the next ten years but I don't think he'll be a fantasy factor in most leagues.

Alexei Ramirez 2B CHW

This kid might have a huge career in the bigs. He has a live bat and might just turn into a hitting machine.

Never know... I have no reason to debate you. Some guys are hyped and succeed, some are hyped and fail and some arn't spoken about and come out of nowhere.

He may start out the season in CF. He is going to have to produce but the ChiSox looking to move Uribe is probably a sign of things to come.

Looks like he has CF for now.Hey Yahoo! let's get some guys added soon! I know somebody posted in one of these threads about tomorrow being the day we'll see some youngsters added in, let's hope that's spot on.And if you're looking for some cheap steals, go grab Velez now. Won't be around much longer if he even is today, he'll be playing everyday with Fransden going down. Spring 16 or 18 steals (can't remember, still led MLB), hit about .285 and scored 16 runs.

Its so ridiculous that Ive had to wait 3 weeks to add Cueto in my keeper league.

Tell me about it. The longer they sit on this, the harder it's going to be to add these guys. Are you planning on using your waiver spot on Cueto?

I have 1st waiver priority and the team I inherited has a horrible staff but good hitters so I really see no choice and nobody unavailable Id wanna spend it on right now.

Keeper league alert: Alexi Ramirez added to Yahoo.

Still no Cueto. I think it's gonna be when he throws his first pitch.

Anyone else know enough to comment on this? I have him in a keeper right now but I could really use the spot.

I side with Eephus. I don't know how deep your keeper league is, but if it's deep enough I'd hold onto him for now and when he gets called up hope he has a hot start. At that time, sell high. His power is limited and he plays in Petco, his ceiling is way too low.

Would you drop him for either of the 2B kids (Velez and Ramirez)?

Velez vs. Headley is apples and oranges. Velez is a potential cheap steals guy with MI eligibility. He's unlikely to be a contributor in anything other than SB and possibly R if he plays every day.I don't think Headley or Ramirez are starters as mixed league OFs unless you're in a very deep league. Ramirez gets a big bump when he earns MI eligibility but he's a bigger AVG risk than Headley. I'm intrigued by Alexei's talent and own him in two keeper leagues but I wouldn't be surprised to see him bat .250 this year.

Burke Badenhop will be getting the call up to apparently take the place of Rick VandenHurk of the Marlins. Badenhop was was apart of the Miguel Cabrera deal. He is a sinker baller with good control. He may surprise but I wouldn't expect high strikeout totals.

Several impressive debuts this last week especially from the Reds and the National League imports.

Max Scherzer called up by DBacks. I know there was a thread mentioning this, but get your Yahoo waiver buttons ready, especially for keeper leagues. He'll be added any day now.
