Rookies getting cut left & right (1 Viewer)

Let's Buster Davis by ARZ, then Q. Moses bu OAK and A. Pittman by NO. Can you remember at anytime rookie that were drafted getting the axe so fast? I'm sure I'm leaving someone else out, but I find it strange that these teams have used 3rd round picks or later and are cutting them so fast. One has to wonder...

I am surprised by some of these guys too. Also, some of the guys that I did not see helping this year like Palko, Ware and Darby were cut. I thought each had done enough to make the team, but evidently not.

Rookie draft picks get cut every year; but Quentin Moses was in the running to start for much of the preseason; so that one is a real surprise.

The Moses and Buster Davis cuts are the most surprising to me.

Moses was talked about at one time as a potential top 10 draft pick!

3rd round pick on Buster Davis is pretty high and not normal even for rookie cuts too.
It's unusual for a 1st day rookie to be waived, true, but hardly unprecedented. Given how underwhelming Davis has been this preseason, I can't say I'm shocked. But Moses surprises me because, again, many beat writers had him contending for the starting end spot.

I must admit, I was pretty surprised at this too, but when I think about it, I honestly don't remember hearing much about him in the last several weeks. It seems most of the talk about him came just after the draft.

Rookies are expected to step up and contribute more quickly now, and if a team feels that extended time isn't going to help the rookie improve, then they cut him. With 53 spots, and the rigors of the NFL being what the are, there is no room on rosters for players not ready to play at a high level.

Just based on potential, I would have thought Moses would make it. They essentially gave his spot to Chris Clemons. Moses showed little in the games, but was talked up during camp. He was one of my favorite picks by the Raiders, so I am definitely bummed. I suppose I am hoping he goes on the PS, but I cannot see him clearing waivers. Course, I couldn't imagine him getting cut either.

Yeah but we're not even talking about "just" 3rd round picks here. We're talking about pick 3.01 and 3.05. That's the 65th and 69th pick in the nfl draft..... somebody in the scouting department should lose their job for these. That's how putrid franchises stay putrid right there.

Did he play bad in the preseason? I didnt see any Oak games.
Moses got a lot of good ink during camp, but he was outplayed by fellow rookie Jay Richardson in the games. Richardson showed much more motor and Moses did tend to disappear at times. That said, I'm surprised they waived him and (as massraider mentioned) I'm hoping he lands on the practice squad. Keeping Clemons ahead of him is a head-scratcher for me ... Clemons looked like camp filler. On another note, I can't believe CB Chris Johnson stuck, he looked horrible every time he stepped on the field. It's hard to believe that he took a DB spot and Darius was let go.

So what does this tell us about Jay Richardson, the defenseive end we drafted in the 5th round out of Ohio State who did make the final 53?Intruiging. :coffee:

Mike Walker, 3rd round WR for the Jags was put on IR to avoid a situation where they had to cut him. Sure his knee had some soreness, but he played last season in college and every preseason game as well as camp on it.

He was the talk of JVille all off-season on how incredible he looked, you think he could have possibly been cut?

After a good JR year in college, Moses was an on the field disappointment as a SR. I did not pay close attention in the Raider preseason game that I saw, but apparently he continued down the wrong path as a pro. The other thing I wonder with the quick cuts is there are off the field reasons for it? Is a guy lazy? does he have an attitude problem? etc. Remember Clarett had the triple threat of an attitude problem, laziness and alcohol.

Many of the "surprises" from yesterday had good things written about them, but cut down day reveals what is truth versus fiction from the off-season pile fluff pieces.

-- Cardinals Claim Moses --

Sun Sep 2, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have claimed DE Quentin Moses off waivers. Moses, the Raiders' third-round pick this year, was cut late this week. Moses, 6 feet 5, 260 pounds, was beaten out by a fifth-round selection, DE Jay Richardson.

One back on a roster. Supposedly GB is looking at A. Pittman too. So far, I haven't heard that Buster has gotten a sniff.

I have watched all of the Raider preseason games. Moses wasn't what I would call dominant, but he was getting pressure on the QB several times evey game. Sure, Richardson showed him up. Richardson showed up everyone this preseason. I didn't agree w/ this move unless, like stated above, there were personality or off-field issues. IMO, he would have been perfect for replacing Burgess at the end of games that were already decided. I don't think he looked strong enough to face the run, but as a situational pass rusher he was worth it. More than that burnt-toast-non-tackling-DB.

All 10 Dolphin draft picks have made the team.
I maybe wouldn't be so proud of this :D
:lmao:Yeah, not such a ringing endorsement of the current roster when a bunch of rookies supplant you.
I was shocked to see all of San Diego's draftees made the roster. They had few roster spots available, but they squeezed them all in.
They released Camarillo to fit them all in and MIA snatched him up. I always liked Camarillo, kind of a poor-man's Eric Parker. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds a role in the MIA offense.... especially when you consider Booker/Ginn have had their share of injury concerns already and there were reports MIA was ready to part ways with Chambers. Camarillo might be able carve a niche for himself on that roster. Cameron also tapped the SD connection to sign Lekkerkerker.I was also surprised that Jue got cut by SD before I saw all the S's around the league that got the axe. Makes you wonder if HOU wishes they would have waited before making the move for Boulware.
