Roster a third quarterback? (1 Viewer)

I have my draft next week and my keeper list is due in the next couple of days.

I don't have a great team. It's been good in the past, but I made a bad trade last year and am looking at a middling year.

My probable keepers:

Matt Schaub

Mike Vick

Jonathan Stewart

Michael Turner

Maurice Jones-Drew

Reggie Bush

Andre Johnson

Rob Gronkowski

Stephen Gostkowski

I can keep 1 more from: Pierre Thomas, Anquan Boldin, Jason Babin, Desmond Bishop, Darryl Washington, Karlos Dansby or Dawan Landry.

We start:

1 QB

1 RB

1 WR

1 TE

1 DL

1 LB

1 DB

1 K

and 5 flex - one of which can be a QB.

So, it is effectively a start 2 QB league.

Our roster is set at 16 players - not much wiggle room since we are starting 13 players. We have limited rules to help alleviate problems with bye weeks and injuries - we can only cut players after week 4, 8 and 12 and we have 20 roster substitutions that can be used. believe me, that's not as many as it seems like.

Now, normally I would go into the season with Vick and Schaub as my QBs and not be too worried about it. If I picked up a third QB, it would be because the was one of value available.

I did not have a third QB last year with Vick. This year, however, I feel it might be much more prudent to roster the third quarterback. Or would you roll the dice? There are always a quarterback or three on the waiver wire who are starters.

I am from Philly and I would say it is less than 20 percent that Nick Foles gets drafted.

HELP@!

I'm going to completely disregard everything about your league so hopefully this won't get bounced to ACF as I think the 3 QB topic is valid.

I think this year there are enough legit lottery tickets in the QB 12-20 range to make it worth keeping 3 to start the season if don't end up with one of the Big 5 QBs.

Last season as I'm sure many here did I had Newton as my lotto ticket QB3 and that played out very well. This year I see the same potential in a guy like Jake Locker who I plan to have as my third QB on both my teams.

I also feel good about Luck & RG3 but I'll probably still take a proven guy like Big Ben or Schaub as my QB1 guy to fall back on.

But yes this year I think it's absolutely worth keeping 3 QBs if you are going a QBBC route or end up with a QB10ish guy as your week 1 starter.

Yes. I have Vick, Luck and Cassel. Vick is an injury risk but should provide god value if he starts. Luck is a gamble but he could be big. Cassel is a journeyman.

I agree especially if your roster size is 20+. I like the idea of getting one of the qbs around 9-12 range and then waiting and taking shots at two late qbs. I don't think in my 18 roster leagues, I can afford the roster spot though.

All teams with Vick should absolutely have a 2nd playable QB - likely from Tier 4 (although Tier 3 would be great if you could get them). With the ability to play two QB you should treat it like a 2QB start league and add the best you can (obviously not with a bye in Week 7 or 8)

I ended up doing 3 QBs because I have P. Manning and the backup I landed (RG3) I'm not sold on so I picked up Palmer in the later rounds. I'll let you know how it goes but it's definitely a valid strategy!!
