Roy Halladay (1 Viewer)

avoiding injuries

Is there a guy you would rather have on your team, Fantasy or Real Life? He is 2nd in points behind only K-Rod in my fantasy league. He leads the league in innings, shutouts, complete games, BB per 9 and SO to BB ratio. He is 2nd in WHIP and K's, 3rd in Wins and ERA. If he wasn't on my fantasy team I'm not sure I would be aware of how well he's pitching. I guess being based in Canada helps keep you underrated. Guy is Nasty.

Last night he was unhittable. He had the sickest stuff Ive seen all year and its like he had 5 different pitches. Hes definitely the best in the AL. I think Johan still needs to be mentioned as best in baseball. Also, King Felix is close.

Real baseball? Tough arguing against Halladay, it has everything to do with the IP's, while Webb, Peavy, among others are better than Halladay 8 innings of Halladay and 1 IP out of a bullpen arm is better in my eyes than 6 IP out of Peavy/Webb and 3 innings out of bullpen arms.

Fantasy? Halladay has never been in my top 10 due in large part to his low K/9.

This year he is #2 in points, only behind K-Rod who gets 10pts for each save. He's #2 in MLB for K's, and 10th for K's per 9 at 7.44. He would be my first pitcher taken if a redraft was held today.

I cannot get points tomorrow for things that happened yesterday. Halladay's current K9 is the highest it has ever been, I tend to trust the much larger sample (6.32 career K9) than the smaller one (7.41 in just over half a season). I feel similarly about his WHP and ERA, while he's always been good for solid ratios (career 3.57/1.22) his current 2.71/1.00 is significantly less than his career numbers. Those who took Halladay this year have been rewarded, but to think he's the #1 guy now would be very short sighted. Peavy was mine preseason and he still is today.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I don't see how you say you can't get points tomorrow for things that happened yesterday but then rely on his career stats over more recent ones(this season). If that were the case, Maddux and Randy Johnson wouldn't be free agents in half of fantasy leagues.

I'm also trying to figure out how it is short sighted for someone thinking Halladay is #1 when he is the #1 ranked SP this year, and not short sighted sticking with Peavy as the #1 because that's where they had him ranked at the beginning of the year.

Oh well, hopefully Francona rewards Halladay with his great first half and starts him in the game on Tuesday.

A larger sample size is more reliable than a smaller one, that's all. If you only used the last three months in analyzing who to take with a 1st round pick now you'd be considering Cliff Lee and Justin Duscherer, that'd be foolish. This is off topic, but I don't get how Mad Dog and The Unit are available in your leagues, I understand they will be in less competitive leagues but they have no business sitting on any decent waiver wire. Mad Dog is $$$ at home and mixed in with some solid ratio pitchers Randy Johnson's high K performances do your team well. Besides, no pitcher can be as unlucky as he's been, his high BABIP is real puzzling.I never said Halladay wasn't #1 now, he is, I'm saying I don't think he'll be the #1 pitcher the rest of the way. If you're drafting today Halladay's fantastic first half would do nothing to help you. I'm not drafting Peavy #1 because that's where I had him preseason, it's what I expect out of him the rest of the way. He was on the shelf for almost a month, pitched through pain for over two weeks and he's still in the top 10 right now - only pitching with a healthy arm for half of the season. The only reason I'd even consider downgrading him now would be due to a concern of his elbow problems resurfacing.

I believe the best pitcher in baseball now and in the future= Felix Hernandez.
I'm sure Tim Lincecum would argue with that. By the way, I'm a FH owner, not a TL owner.
 I had him as top 5 preseason, one could make an argument for him being numero uno at this point. Watched him for the first time in a while yesterday, the Cubbies bats were ecstatic to see a different arm in the 9th and there's good reason for that.
