Roy Williams out for the year (1 Viewer)

Roy Williams had 82 catches for 1310 yards and 7 scores last year. This year he has 63 for 836 and 5 scores, which puts him on pace for about 80 catches, 1100 yards and 7-8 scores. I'm not sure what your idea of "bust" is, but he is a pretty good player considering his offense has been extremely inconsistent over the past few season. He was a top 10 pick, has elite talent, and has possibly the most talented rookie WR in history playing on the other side of the field. Martz is his offensive coordinator, and the Detroit defense is terrible and a myriad of players away from being effective. Bad defense means more opportunities for throwing the ball. All these factors should really point you in a different direction, BusterTBronco.

I would also advise you to use this site to your advantage and value the responses from other posters. It is a great resource, and other posters will be sure to ignore you if you don't change your manner.

I think he is as gifted as they come at the WR position, I can't wait till he hits the FA market(assuming he picks a good squad)

Sure, his overall numbers might look okay but consider these:

-Roy Williams was one of the top 10 WR drafted in most fantasy drafts this year.

-He had 53 yards or less in 7 of his first 11 games this year.

-He has failed to score a touchdown in 8 of his last 9 games.

Those kinds of numbers are absolutely killing Roy Williams fantasy owners this year.
Those stats are telling, but they all seem to justify a negative short term view. Long term, Roy is a very good prospect, and has already shown that he can put up elite numbers.

It depends on what you define as a "bust." From a fantasy perspective, I think he is certainly a bust this year. He has been unusable since the first few weeks of the season and I spent quite a bit in my auction league only to have him mired on my bench. His season totals may have projected out to be ok. But his inconsistent play and early season performance certainly skew those numbers. I don't think he's anywhere nearly as valuable as your forecasted numbers would lead anyone to believe.

If you want to twist stats, I can do this all day long. Let's set the thresh hold at 70 yards receiving or at least 8 fantasy pts and see how he compares to some other WRs drafted in the 5-15 range.....WR-------------- 70+ yards------------- 8+ pts------------

Roy Williams-------5-----------------------6

Driver-----------------5-----------------------5

S.Smith--------------3-----------------------5

Boldin----------------4-----------------------5

L.Evans--------------4------------------------3

M.Harrison----------injured

J.Walker------------injured

WR-------------- 70+ yards------------- 8+ pts------------Roy Williams-------5-----------------------6Driver-----------------5-----------------------5S.Smith--------------3-----------------------5Boldin----------------4-----------------------5L.Evans--------------4------------------------3M.Harrison----------injuredJ.Walker------------injured
And which one of those guys isn't a "bust" this year?

As someone who watches him every week I think he's extremely overrated. His TDs tend to come when games are already decided (see GB) and he drops more balls than any other WR on the team (granted he gets more targets). I don't think you'll see a huge dropoff in our passing stats since Furrey and McDonald are both Martz guys, know the system and know where to be.As for Roy being a free agent, get the hell out of Detroit already. His 1st down celebrations are completely bush league and a perfect reflection of where the organization is--celebrating first downs while getting our asses handed to us. Tell me any of that crap would fly with a real organization like Pitt, GB, Indy, NE (cheaters), etc...

We've already established that you have a different definition of bust than the rest of the fantasy football world.

Okay, what if I said "underperformed relative to expectations" instead of "bust"? Would that make you happy?

Sure. If you look at the preseason top 20 WRs I would count 5 busts (S.Smith, Harrison, Evans, J.Walker, S.Moss) and 5 who underperformed relative to where they were drafted (C.Johnson, Holt, Roy Williams, Boldin, and Driver). Big difference between the 2 groups though.

Can't believe I found this on CBS before finding it here but:

The Lions are not placing Williams on the IR just yet. "I still think he has a chance to get back," Coach Marinelli said, "I believe that right now, so thats the path we're going. I think we're going to get him back."

So... safe to drop then? Or is there any chance they get him back even sooner than they hoped?

Initial expectation was to miss 3-5 games. Detroit and ROY are holding out hope that he misses the minimum 3 games, which would mean he'd be back for the last game, Week 17. Even if he comes back one week earlier, do you really want to take the risk he's fully healed and ready to contribute to most likely your playoff championship game?IMO, it's safe to drop him.
