Rudi Johnson (1 Viewer)

It seems odd to me, but I am still somewhat of a FF rookie, that Rudi is still valued so high. The Bengals have taken some HUGE hits on the line and most places I look say "start Rudi" or "He'll get his". I don't think his outlook is so good the next few weeks.

What do you sharks think? Is he viable in the next few weeks? Is he always a MUST start?

Seems like Rudi should sit for a while and play matchups with other RB's if you have them. I don't see him cracking the top ten this year (I know a lot of lists have him there), but if the next few weeks are tough, and looking at the recent weeks what should we expect?

Here's Sportsline's take:

News: The Bengals' sputtering offense took another hit Monday when left tackle Levi Jones learned he likely will need arthroscopic knee surgery, sidelining him for a rough stretch of Cincinnati's schedule. Jones hurt his left knee during the first half of a 14-13 loss in Tampa that stripped the luster off of the defending AFC North champions. The offense hasn't played to expectations since center Rich Braham suffered a significant knee injury during the second game of the season.

Analysis: Now, the player who protects Carson Palmer's blind side will be out for several weeks, with some of the league's top defenses lined up to take their best shot. "It is going to be a tough month," Jones said. Rookie Andrew Whitworth is expected to start in Jones' absence. QB Carson Palmer and RB Rudi Johnson remain must-starts in all Fantasy leagues, but don't be surprised to see the Cincinnati offense continue to struggle with Jones on the mend.

As a Rudi owner, I am also a bit worried as of late. That offense just doesn't seem the same this year. I still think he'll do well, but I'm worried he won't do as well as I had hoped (top 5).

I know he has a tough schedule coming up, but last season he flourished during a stretch through tough games.

So I'm basically torn, but am considering at least shopping him to see what I can get.

He's starting ahead of Larry Johnson vs. SD this week, but not without some reservation on my end. Without the OL and with Perry possibly re-entering the picture, it's cause for concern. Last week's 50 yards vs. TB was soul-crushing to me and many other FF owners, would hate to see that trend continue.

I'm trying to move him for the likes of C.Taylor, R.Brown, or T.Bell. They all have better playoff schedules and I think CIN's O-line issues paired with the fact that they can't stop the run will require them to pass more to stay in games. Last week vs. TB was the easiest matchup they'll have vs. the run until maybe week 11 (for now, I'm considering Tiki's performance vs. ATL an aberration since Hartwell is coming back).

Right now, Rudi's FF points total for the season trails Ronnie, equals Chester, and is only slightly higher than Bell's. After this week, I could see Rudi trailing all 3.

In re-draft leagues, he's in deep trouble, OL is real banged up and tough schedule, I wish I moved him a few weeks ago, he is going to be :toilet: for the second half of the season, Bungholes are in a world of hurt right now...

Taylor and Brown have about the same playoffs SOS. T Bell's is much harder.Rudi has an easy Oakland team at home week 14.He plays Indy on MNF in week 15, who has been one of the worst rush D's in the league so far.Week 16 is the only tough game, @ Denver.

I'm seriously considering targeting any of the following (redraft):

SJax

McGahee

Tiki

FWP

Portis

Brown

Bell

Alexander

How is Tatum Bell's playoff schedule hard?SF Cinci (can't stop the run)Ari

San Diego week 14 (NOT San Fransisco) - in case you haven't noticed they're a bit tough against the run. 2nd best in the league right now in FF points allowed.Arizona in week 15, and they aren't a bad run D at all. Middle of the pack right now.Cincinnati in week 16 is easy. That is a harder schedule than Rudi Johnson who has 2 EASY games and one hard one.ETA: I didn't say it was a hard schedule either. Just harder than Rudi, who has the 8th easiest schedule in the league come playoff time, right around where Taylor and Ronnie are.

This is why I'm not panicking. I traded for Rudi a few weeks ago and have been underwhelmed by his performance. But I believe I have a playoff team regardless of Rudi's performance prior to week 14, and I like the week 14 & 15 matchups. The fact that the week 16 matchup is tough is unfortunate, but... any given Sunday, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, etc.

Indy added McFarland, should help shore up the run D for them...

Even if it makes them a middle of the road D it's still the same schedule as Tatum's. And that's an if...

I not concerned about Rudy:

Palmer and Chad will start to click and that will open things up for the running game.

Most teams have capable back up OL, last week Detroit had 3 line man out and K. Jones still ran for over a 100 yards.

The schedule was not all that easy last year with Pitt. Bal, etc. and Rudy did fine.

I agree he's had two slow weeks, but to much talent with Rudy and the team to be over concerned, I feel the coaching staff on the team, will plan to overcome the o-line short commings, and Chad Johnson, T.J and Palmer will step it up.

If anything Rudi is a buy low right now.

I disagree, the OL has WAY too many injuries...according to FBGs"Last year, the same five starters lined up for 14 of the 16 games. This year, there have been four different combinations in five games. "You think he's buy low? They better hope Palmer doesn't get killed before the end of November...

I'm kind of on the fence right now with what to do with Rudi. The o-line issues are a major concern and the fact that they couldnt run on TB last week surprised me quite a bit.

My playoffs is weeks 15-17. Week 17 is bad for Rudi too (PIT).Based on the fantasy points allowed vs. the run in our league, here's how the 4 match up:Bell- W14: 31st, W15: 10th, W16: 6th, W17: 2ndBrown- W14: 24th, W15: 8th, W16: 3rd, W17: 4thR.Johnson- W14: 7th, W15: 4th, W16: 18th, W17: 27thTaylor- W14: 20th, W15: 3rd, W16: 12th, W17: 11thIf you look at the remaining schedules (W7-13):Bell- 3/7 vs. difficult matchups (teams ranked 16th-32nd) - 9,4,27,7,31,13,25Brown- 4/7 - 12,bye,30,13,26,20,23R.Johnson- 6/7  - 19,21,32,31,22,9,32Taylor- 4/7 - 25,24,2,12,29,10,30So for me (as of week 6), I'd probably rank them Bell, Taylor, Brown, Johnson from here forward.

Don't underestimate the value of the O-line to Rudi. He is not a shifty runner, he can't create when nothing is there. He is a straight-ahead plowshare that needs a hole to get his momentum going, and then he's really good. However, that O-line is in shambles... they are all dinged up or really hurt (levi jones) and the backups don't have experience or chemistry. Palmer is getting hit all the time and there are no holes for Rudi. TB had the 30th ranked rush defense going into the Cinci game and they stuffed Rudi all day.

IMO, Rudi is a sell before that really tough sked hits and his value hits the toilet.

I just traded him for Steve Smith yesterday, if you want to know what I think his value is right now.

A couple of weeks ago I wa high on Rudi and actually tried to aquire him for several weeks. But with all of the injuries to the OL, Perry possibly coming back, and the lack of production from Palmer I changed my mind.

If I could get him on the cheap I'd still be interested but tRudi owners will not let him go for a song.

In the one league I own him......I'm trying to trade him for F. Gore straight up. The F. Gore owner is the only one who will even listen to a possible trade. I looked into trading for S.JAX, FWP, T.Bell.....hell - even C.Taylor. All of the other owners in this league want nothing to do with Rudi.......one owner offered me Duce McAllister and said take it or leave it.........I left it.

Last I heard on Braham was that his injury was more serious than a "deep knee bruise" but I don't have a link. I think I read it at profootballsports.com.

I just got two new offers for Rudi - guy that owns Fred Taylor just offered me Fragile Fred and Berrian for Rudi and Colston. The other was Kevin Jones and Musin Muhammad for Rudi and Colston. I know I'm taking one of them since the Gore owner back out.

That's rough man. Neither of those trades is a "sell-high". You are taking a WR downgrade both times, IMO. Still, I'd go with Kevin Jones because he's a full time back and a lot younger than "The Fragile One".

Guy just offered me Rudi for Dunn and Driver and I was about to jump on it before reading this thread. Now having 2nd thoughts. :loco:

I know niether option is a "sell high", but no owner in my league wants to touch Rudi with his offensive line problems and his up comming schedule.

I could ride it out and just keep Rudi.......but I don't see him being as productive behind that O-Line and with Perry comming off the P.U.P.

Seems to me that once the weather starts to turn, those AFC north teams really start to get their running game going. I traded for Rudi about this time last year, and he was :moneybag: down the stretch.

At least that's how I remember it.

Seems like there are two areas of concern to judge here: remaining regular season and playoffs. For me, I'm not worried about the regular season, just the playoffs. So my question is whether or not the OL injuries will be much improved by that time. There are a lot of posters talking about their injuries... what's the prognosis?

I don't disagree that if your team is fighting for a playoff spot, Rudi's near term outlook looks worse than it did a few weeks ago.

OL was healthy last year.....not so much this year.

I traded Thomas Jones and M Jones-Drew earlier in the year for Rudi and I am starting to get some buyers remorse. Rudi is my 3rd RB (start 3) with Portis and FWP, so I am not THAT concerned, but I would have preferred the O'Line stay intact.

Aren't most of the starting O line in contract years too?

I thought about it more and more and Im thinking Rudi will be a monster still. Their missing 2 Olinemen but arthroscopic surgery isnt that bad. Jones will be out a few weeks and should be healthy by the playoffs. Also, even if Rudi doesnt get as many yards hes still a TD machine on the goalline.

As far as my deal, despite the advice everyone gave me, Im going to accept it. Even with the Oline problems Rudi is better than Dunn and I can afford to lose Driver cuz I have Reggie Brown sitting on my bench.

Arent they only missing 2 guys? And Levi just got hurt this Sunday. Arthroscopic surgery is usually not a long term surgery. I cant imagine Jones being out more than 4 weeks. And the rest of the oline is solid.

this has been the biggest problem this year, IMOCincy has not gotten very many opportunities inside red zone this year.

by my count of the game logs they have made only 13 trips to the red zone in 5 games, and 5 of those trips were in week 2 against the Browns

I think thats kind of flukey right now. A team with Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, TJ Housh, Chris Henry, and Chris Perry certainly has enough offense to get to the goalline despite missing a few olinemen.

For the Dunn vs. Rudi question, I'll throw this out there:

Who has the bigger commitment to the run- ATL or CIN? Sure, Vick vultures some goal line TDs, but let's face it- their passing game is nothing while CIN has tons of talent at the WR position. I think Dunn wins in terms of opportunity.

Of course Atlanta but that didnt stop Rudi from getting 1500 yds rushing the last 2 years. Receiving wise theyre both nonexistant. And Rudi FAR outweighs Dunn in TDs.Also, how has the commitment to the run changed the answer to that question since before the season? Rudi was a consensus top 5 RB while Dunn was middle 2nd to early 3rd rounder. Nothings changed as far as philosophies.

I'm having a tough time with a trade offered yesterady, so this thread is extremely timely for me. I'm turning it down. For those of you looking to judge his worth, it was gettin Rudi/A Bryant for Chester/Reg Williams.

IMO, Rudi = buy low.

I never worry about his schedule - he has played Bal and Pit twice each year, with and without a healthy OL, and has performed just fine.

If he can out up numbers versus those two Ds, no defense inthe league should scare you off Rudi.

Super Bowl week looks tough (either week 16 in Denver or 17 at home v. Pitt), esp. with two road games in weeks 15/16, but the prior weeks might at least help get you INTO the Bowl. Real nice schedule from weeks 11 through 15 (Bal in Cin is not even a little bit worrisome):

@NO @Cle Bal Oak @Ind @Den Pit

I wouldve taken that trade in a heartbeat but thats just me.

I've decided to stand pat with Rudi and see what happens. I can't get equal value (K. Jones and M. Muhammad for Rudi and Colston) was the best offer I could dig up - so I will hang on to Rudi and hope that the offense comes to life and Perry doesn't steal too many of Rudi's carries.

When was the last time he played with OL issues like these and had success? There's only one excuse for 3 net yards in the first half vs. TB- and now they're also down a guard on the left side. Statistically, the run game either succeeds or fails based on the center and the OL- look at the Vikings, Ravens, Cardinals, and Jets last year; Cleveland, Oakland, Edge and reigning NFL MVP Shaun Alexander this year...Rudi is the one guy who will buck the trend? Maybe if he was involved in the passing game I could see some signs of optimism- but I think his value is only going to go down from here...so if you REALLY want him, you can likely have him dirt cheap at your league's trade deadline- why move on him now when the situation looks ugly?

For what it's worth as we all debate his value. I offered another owner Rudi and Reggie Williams for McGahee and Boldin. Probably a wrong move because of what Rudi will be capable of after the OL gets back together, or all our questions are answered if the "fix" will occur sooner.

I am in a situation where I need to win now, so for me I can't wait for the guy to give me numbers so I'm going for a needed upgrade at WR, and potential short term similar production at RB.

When was the last time he played with OL issues like these and had success?
1) the OL issues= ONE injured player and one other player who was injured in this past game.2) when he took over from Dillon, the OL suXed out loud. 2004, he had injured starting OL all year long - in fact, IIRC, there was a VERY bad injury to their best OLineman and Rudi was HUGE.
