They are going to try and move fast on this because the offensive coaching staff will be purged... Having the overall #1 pick is a huge selling point especailly if they are trying to get Weis or Petrino in there... The Shell info is out of NY from the same place where the Bobby Petrino information came from last year when nobody else had him as a candidate...

Can anyone confirm or deny this information?

As an Oklahoma alumnus and watching the Fiesta Bowl last night I would say if the Raiders want an offensive minded coach they should look no further than Boise State head coach Chris Petersen.

As a chargers fan, I hope they stick with Art Shell. He seems clueless to what is happening around him and the game has passed him by.

I'm shocked they're even mentioning Weis. I can't think there's anyway they land someone that big (literally and figuratively).

These are the coaches Al had courted in recent years, who basically turned him down...Sean PaytonEric ManginiUrban MeyerBobby PetrinoKen WhisenhuntThere is some debate (denial?) from the Raiders that an official offer was presented to Whisenhunt, but the other four were courted, offered and subsequently turned down Al.Either way, it's apparent, that Al still has an eye for young coaching talent, but can no longer convince a rising young coaching star to sign on with the darkside.I'd love to see a Chris Peterson or Jeff Tedford with the S&B, but I don't know if any of these types would be willing to take a chance with Oakland.

Not with the way Davis runs the front office. If the front office had given Gruden even a little control over signings, then he could very well still be the OAK HC. Al, please turn into a figurehead and stop ruining everything. You're killing us.

 I can't imagine how upset Gruden must have been back in 2000 when Al Davis drafted Sebastian Janikowski in the 1st round. Who would want to coach for an owner who would actually do something like that?

I think Tedford told them pretty much thanks but no thanks last year. Maybe the first pick changes his tune a little? :D

The biggest thing that is keping Peterson from being only any list is that is his first year as head coach. If you 2 or 3 more years even close to this one, he will be a pretty hot candidate for a major college gig.

There is zero chance Tedford will leave to work for Al Davis. Tedford is a character guy.

It could be.There is nothing upstairs in the Raider organization.
Raider fans can be very excited about being able to obtain a better head coach this year. As of Jan 1, 2007, the new minimum wage law has increased what the Raiders will have to pay to at least $8.50 per hour.

The D-Coordinator in Oakland has quietly done an outstanding job this year. Too bad the Raiders are only known for Al Davis in his white vinyl pants, their unhappy WRs, the bust known as Robert Gallery and the revolving door at QB.

Ugh, my ulcer just flared up again..... :-) I'm trying to forget everything since the dot-com bust, especially last year..... You're right about Rob Ryan though. I love the guy. Grizzlie Adams has personality and fire. We need that at the helm. I'd just be worried about replacing the DC position because he's been so good. Maybe we bring in his brother Rex Ryan as HC, letting him hold onto the DC job and then drag in someone who knows anything at all about offense for OC.
