If this holds up to be true, it's the smartest move the Raiders could have made, aside from trading down.

You will soon love Brady Quinn.

RUMORS FLY OF QUINN TO RAIDERS

There are rumors right now in media circles that the Raiders are closing in on a deal with (drum roll, please) Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, who would then be named the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network tipped us off to the rumor. Mark Maske of the Washington Post acknowledges the rumor in a Friday afternoon chat, but he says he's not reporting that the deal is done.

We heard earlier in the week that the Raiders had made an initial offer to Quinn. We have since heard that, while hard numbers were not presented to Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, there was enough discussion about parameters and terms to give him a sufficient idea as to the ballpark amount of the deal.

And they've thrown in Adam Schefter's name as a "tipster".

ETA: A few seconds late. Dang interruptions...

There's a guy over on the KFFL boards, says he has a buddy from TSN, that thinks they are just finishing the deal. He's definitely not a guy to make crap up.

Raiders | Deal with Cleveland a possibility?

Fri, 27 Apr 2007 12:05:48 -0700

ESPN's Ed Werder reports there is a chance the Oakland Raiders work out a trade with the Cleveland Browns during the first round of the NFL Draft. There is speculation the Browns could send WR Braylon Edwards to the Raiders in addition to the No. 3 pick overall for the first-overall selection.

Which makes the Quinn thing make sense (maybe) -- if CLE really doesn't want him and wants CJ, OAK can grab Quinn pretty easy at 3. BUT one wonders what DET will do -- as usual, they hold the key to alot of crap in the first 10....

CLE want Jamarcus? I heard that Phil Savage likes him, they're from the same area and Russell used to attend his camp.

Possibly.... that would still leave CJ at 2, and some very intriguing possibilities regarding people who might jump at the chance to grab him.Like sand in the hour glass, these are the Days of our Draft....

TSN (Canadian ESPN, not The Sporting News) was reporting yesterday that the Raiders had given Quinn a lowball offer that was less than a 1.1 QB would normally get, but more than he'd get at 1.4 or 1.5.

Funny...The thought that the Raiders had signed Quinn had this thread LOCKED a couple hours ago. Now, the key has been turned once more and it appears that the old man in black is wreaking havock on the NFL nation.

This is going to be entertaining!

I wonder what Al Davis's spies found out about Jam Russell?

In other news,,,as a Chiefs fan, I used to HATE Al Davis and now I can't help but LOVE the little guy.

LESS THAN 50 MIL?!?!? Damn, that's a slap in the face.

Edwards + 1.3 for the 1.1? that doesn't seem like a good deal for Cleveland.
you mean Oakland?
no.
some would say that's not enough for #1 overall
That's surprising. Braylon Edwards + Quinn/Jamarcus [at a 1.3 contract] strikes me as being obviously better than Quinn/Jamarcus alone paying a 1.1 contract. Pick 1.2 is going to be CJ one way or another I have to believe, so there should almost surely be a QB left at 1.3. I guess it comes down to whether they truly are up in the air or have a clear QB favorite. If Savage is in love with Jamarcus, and Oakland prefers Quinn, this is a scenario that makes quite a bit of sense IMHO.

It's a calculated risk. You're Quinns agent. They say 49 mil or we go with Russell. How far would you fall? 7? 9? 10? You wouldn't sniff 50 mil down there. Even at 1.03, I don't think you'd see 50mil. Of course it's just guessing. But I buy the low ball offer report we heard yesterday.

I'm assuming that if CLE is giving up Braylon Edwards that they may be after Calvin Johnson. It would seem foolish to essentially be trading Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards for JaMarcus Russell. Do they really think that Russell is so much better than Quinn that he doesn't need a decent WR? Seems unlikely.

I also buy the notion that PFT put forth, that Tom Condon does not want to be known as the Wal-Mart of agents, discounting his players, and getting screwed by the teams.

It also stated that Quinn would WANT the deal, but Condon wouldn't. Who would win out? An agent can't refuse the deal if the clients wants to accept can he?
