RUMOR: Tom Brady and BALCO (1 Viewer)

After his 1st season in the NFL a skinny Tom Brady was on the verge of being released by the Pats.During that 1st off-season, he put on 25+ lbs of muscle. (a fact that by itself has made certain baseball players suspects in the public eye). There is a phone record of Tom Brady talking to Greg Anderson. He's not guilty, but the Door is Open.
*He was skinny.*It's an absolute fabrication that he was on the verge of being released.*He has put on a lot of weight. He's also known as the hardest worker on the Patriot team. He's a definite workout warrior. *In this day and age nothing would surprise me. Even something as seemingly farfetched as this so yes, a door is always open. Yet, the trend of throwing darts at a public figure without any specifics is getting ridiculous. It puts people in a guilty perception with the public and once that happens a reputation has been tarnished and the hordes move on to their next target and the victim is left standing wondering what just happened.
He was told that if he wanted to "stay in the NFL" that he needed to get stronger. He did get stronger. It is not a fabrication at all to suggest that if he remained "weak" (i.e., his year 1 physique) he may never of elevated himself within Belichek's system to be the #2 QB and may have toiled in medicrority. He needed to get stronger. He did and became great.Workout Warrior? So what, so was McGwire, Romo, Bonds.I didn't say that he was guilty, I just said that the door was no open. One needs to look at the %'s. Well in excess of 50% of modern athletes that have been rumored to use steroids have been steroid users (at least as judged in the court of public opinion that deems guys like Sosa, McGwire as guilty). Yes, this indicts a few truly innocent folks, but not usually. The NFL has gotten a free pass on PED's because their fans really don't care -- there is no sacrosanct equivalent of a 61/714 HR threshold.
You claimed he was on the verge of being released. That is not true. There was stuff the coaching staff wanted him to work on to become an NFL caliber QB and he did it. That is not being on the verge of being released. If he had ignored them than yes a release would probably have happen but since he has done everything the staff wanted him to do that was not the case. BB has been very fond of Brady since he became a Patriot and while he was by no means a sure thing and his career has been a definite surprise his head was never on the chopping block.

I just read The Education of a Coach which goes into this in depth. You're exactly right. They knew that Brady's work ethic was exceptional from day one, but they didn't know exactly what they had until he was a few starts into the 2001 season in relief of Bledsoe. The book didn't say it directly, but my impression was that they were in no way considering releasing him.

How does a qb take steroids? Also if Brady is juicing he better get better stuff as he looks real weak for a juice bag. A college student lifting over the summer could look like Brady...
