Running Back Strategy (1 Viewer)

The Dire Wolf

I placed this here since it stated the Shark Pool was for general strategy questions. If this is the wrong place please let me know.

Is it generally a good idea to lower or raise the value of guys based on already owning their counterpart in a RBBC. Example: would you draft Michael Bush a round higher since you already have McFadden. Or if you have Hightower would you try to package a trade in order to get Beanie. I realize it's not wise to overpay for any player, since production is most important, but how if if any is having the total team of a committee helpful during the season?

Thanks-

Matt

It's a personal risk management strategy. I'm in the group that makes every effort to back up my #1 or #2 RB if possible. Of course, it isn't always possible, and sometimes the #2 back isn't evident at this point in the season. But obvious one's like Adrian Peterson/Chester Taylor, Matt Forte/Kevin Jones, Brandon Jacobs/Bradshaw, etc...can be put together with relative ease...

So yes, I will take a player significantly higher than his ADP to minimize my risk...

Others will argue vehemently that this is foolish, and they certainly can back up that viewpoint with logic, but again, it's all about how YOU want to manage risk.

Another thought was using this strategy to encourage another owner to trade someone I covet who has a slightly lower ADP, by encouraging their ability to put together a complete RBBC. The trade would be relatively equal, but probably not be excepted by someone not hoping to complete a committee. Maybe I'm being shady but the opposite owner will have his choice to accept/counter/ or deny. Something like trying to tempt the Beanie Wells owner with Hightower, with the idea of him being able to complete that RBBC, and asking for L Washington or F Jones in return. Thoughts?

I think that it's important to handcuff a RB2 in those cases where your #1 or #2 Fantasy RB has a justifiable "injury=prone" label, AND the RB2 has sufficient talent and offensive system to produce.

The obvious example is Brian Westbrook. He's hitting the dreaded 30-year mark on September 2nd, and we all know that he hasn't played a complete 16-game season. It's worth taking LeSean McCoy with an 8th round pick; same with Darren Sproles backing up Tomlinson.

That isn't the case for someone like Samkon Gado backing up Steven Jackson. You can use your final pick to take Gado, or even grab him over the waiver wire.
