Russell/Radiers Close to Deal (1 Viewer)

What were the reported #'s on the deal they had been working on? Only interested in years/$/guaranteed $. The only thing they differed on was guaranteed $'s correct???

does it matter at this point FF wise? He won't start unless the raiders really blow the first half of the season. I think if Culpepper starts the raider have a shot to be decent this year. The raiders have some weapons...

It's time for the Raiders to start taking money off the table. Let the punk go back into the draft if he's got the guts. He'll never get back the money he'll lose. This should be a lesson to all teams who have the first pick. Don't make the pick unless you have a deal in place. If you can't get a deal, move on to the next player. It might sting to let him go but the future is now and he's not part of it.

I haven't seen anything that would lead me to label Russell a "punk". From what I hear, it's the Raiders that are being stingy due to their cash flow problems.

Russell wants a little too much, but from what I have read the lion share of the blame lies with the Raiders. I read they tried to exclude guarantees that no other #1 overall pick in the last 15 years has signed without and tried to load some of the money into the 4th year of the deal since a lot of players renegotiate after their thrid year.

There was also chatter from his uncle that he's close to signing, and that his uncle wished he'd signed earlier.

He's been offered a better deal than last year's number one. The fact that he's not there is enough to convince me he's a punk. Of course he could be a tad on the dumb side. That would explain why he's tossed away a year of his career(Even if he signs, he's of little to no use to his team. He'll get no experience at all now. Don't bank on him playing at all this year).I'd be willing to bet that the people saying the Raiders are being stingy are the people who represent Russell. Who else is involved in the negotiations besides the Raiders and Russell's people? If you heard something, it had to come from one side or the other(and I doubt the Raiders would be calling themselves stingy).

Again, what you're hearing is coming from Russell's people. btw-I wouldn't guarantee ANYTHING outside of a signing bonus to a rookie(too many busts--especially at the qb position) . If the Raiders are doing this, good for them. Maybe they aren't as stupid as they seem at times. Like I said, time to start pulling cash off the table. Let him sit. He won't go number one next year. He may not even go top 10 after sitting out a year. Who wants a guy they may not be able to sign?
