I made it until about paragraph five, then stopped. Too bleak to keep on reading, especially the part about the text to his mother.

I've said it before, but I'm curious how much help his MLB teams tried to get him, with his known alcohol problems and potential mental health issues. He used to often talk about Farney, the voice that lived inside his head. The media pretty much laughed this off as shtick, but I wonder if it was a sign of deeper issues.
