Head Coach Mike Smith confirmed after Thursday afternoon’s practice that rookie safety William Moore will miss two to four weeks while he recovers from a minor surgical procedure.

“William had a procedure done on his knee,” the coach said. “The procedure was done earlier today in response to an injury that occurred two days ago.

“It’s nothing major but, of course, anytime you lose a guy — especially a rookie — that’s not going to have the opportunity to work on the field he’s going to have to do some extra work in the classroom.”

Moore was back at practice today and felt excellent. Whether or not he plays in the Falcons preseason game on Saturday depends on how his knee responds to the workload from practices. LINK

It was reported that he played, but he didn't show up in the box score. Anyone catch the game?

I'm trying to decide how many years to commit to him on my taxi squad (has to be moved to active roster after 1 yr), so seeing him in game action (even if it's coming off an injury) would have been nice. At the very least, I'm guessing it's unlikely that he'll make a contribution this year... so how much of his upside was talent and how much was situation? If he is healthy and wins the SS job next year, would you anticipate him keeping it and remaining a DB2 or better for a few years?

MOORE RE-INJURED

Second-round pick William Moore got his first action of the exhibition season in the second quarter before leaving the game with a hamstring injury. He returned to practice last week after missing three weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Ouch. I missed that.... (not on the FBG News blog!)So, what do you think of his talent long term?

Long term he's still one of the most if not the most talented safety in this draft. I don't see how this changes, although he needs to get healthy and take the field and show it at some point of course.

I'm not as big on his pure talent as others, but he was drafted early and should get a shot to start next year, if not later this year. Safeties do not necessarily have to be talented to put up solid IDP numbers, so I would probably want to hold if possible.
