Sabby Piscitelli (1 Viewer)

From ROTOWORLD (2/25/09):

The Bucs remain far apart in discussions with S Jermaine Phillips.

He's expected to reach free agency. Phillips has been a productive strong safety, but he's going on 30 and has played all 16 games just once in the past five years. The Bucs have Sabby Piscitelli ready to take over.

Any new news on Jermaine

He's still visiting teams during the FA period....I personally was a little "disappointed" in Sabbys' #'s when Phillips was injured last year but maybe they'd be better if he was a definite starter from day 1. Maybe Jene or somebody could weigh in on how Tampa's new D scheme might impact SS numbers next year....

Bates likes to put his safeties in the box, and, despite Ruud in the middle, the lack of a notable OLB would suggest pretty good upside for the SS. Piscitelli isn't a classic in-the-box safety and the Bucs may yet bring in some competition if they don't re-sign Phillips, but he's looking like a DB3+ again. Hopefully he can be more productive this season than he was last if he wins an every-down role.

Edited to remove references to Jermaine Phillips Buchanon signing with Detroit.

so are they actually going to try Jermaine Phillips at WLB? Has he beefed up substantially? Is it time to drop him? I am pretty close to my roster limit in one of my leagues, and Phillips, Marvin White (cinci) and Jenkins (Dallas) are on the bubble as next to get the axe

These workouts will also allow the Bucs to gauge the progress Jermaine Phillips is making as he attempts to make the transition from safety to weakside linebacker, where they hope he can replace perennial all-pro Derrick Brooks.

Now imagine I'm a Quincy Black owner. :(

I've noticed a recent spike/upswing with Sabby's rankings in both re-draft and dynasty formats from several writers on fbguys.

Has something changed recently to cause this? I have been high on him for a while and recently picked him up in the 9th round of a rookie/fa draft, but I have not been able to find much info on a pending upswing in his value...just curious.

Thx.

He is slated to play SS this year for the Bucs, but it's not written in stone yet.
