Safety situation in Cincy.... (1 Viewer)

Fighting Noles

I know training camp is a ways off, but it seems like the Bengals website (& elsewhere) is talking like Crocker "may" be starting over Ndukwe next year. I know Jene & some others follow the Bengals closely, so I was just wondering what you guys think here.

Also, is White still expected to still start at FS? The positions have been good for IDPers and I was just curious....

I haven't seen any speculation that Crocker would start ahead of Ndukwe, but I'd like to see it if you've got a link. We're pretty much where we were last season. It really looked like Nduwke and White were poised to start at the safety positions, then Ndukwe got dinged early in camp and Marvin's preference for mistake-free play and a vet who could line up the defense pushed Jackson into a larger role.My feeling would be that Ndukwe is the starting strong safety now and won't be moved. The re-signing of Crocker, his decent play during the second half of 2008 and White's continued inconsistent tackling make Crocker the likely starter at FS. I would be very surprised, assuming current levels of play during OTAs and no new injuries, if Crocker and White are the opening weekend starters.

That sounds more like it & another reason why I appreciate you guys imput here. Rotoworld & some of the other "news" sites had been giving that impression but more often than not they are wrong. I know the last two games of '08 it was Ndukwe & Crocker starting and that seemed to be a good mix.

Thanks again....

Crocker's return gives the Bengals the potential to have a pretty good secondary if everyone stays healthy. Chinedum Ndukwe is expected to play the other safety spot, with Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall at the cornerback positions. Crocker, entering his seventh NFL season, would be the veteran of the unit. He also played with Cleveland (2003-05), Atlanta (2006-07) and Miami (half of 2008).
