Saints #2 Wide Receiver (1 Viewer)

Hey Bri,

This is a shocker, most thought it was Patten. Something to watch for sure.

THis is beginning to rival Shanninigans with the RBs. I have Meacham, but wouldn't be surprised to see Patten, Dev, or Moore starting. Who knows?

Hard to imagine a #1 draft pick with a great preseason not getting the start but there's obviously something they aren't sold on Meacham.

Moore is 5-9 or 5-10 and a sorta Chrebet wannabe. He's best suited for the slot IMO and...for now, I'm sticking with that. Saints fans agree this is probably the safest prediction?

payton has been trying to find a way to use him for 2 years now. payton always speaks well of him. this isn't a terrible stretch but i think it's more a case of moore auditioning. maybe henderson will get a shot too? maybe meachem will as well?moore has the speed/size/surehands to be a demon in the slot, especially across the middle. he did punt and kick off returns last year so i know he's not afraid to take a hit.

Can't remember which game it was (perhaps against Seattle) last season, but Moore just looked great. Every time he was in, he got open and caught everything thrown to him. I picked him up off the waiver wire and of course, they hardly ever used him again...

No matter who it is on the depth chart and the first play of the game, Patten will finish 2nd among the Saints WRs statistically this week.

they were raving about moore in the preseason last year. i picked him up on a flyer late in my draft. i really had high hopes for him because of the sure hands. he's small but can take a lick.

that's why i think payton is having players audition for the #2. patten isn't really a #2. he's just the most reliable of the lesser NO receivers. it's not permanent.

Shockey will be the guy with the most catches besides Colston.
meh. i'm thinking he's going to be a big part of the red zone targeting more than anything. if last year is any indication then TE will be used in 3rd down situations. they were in these 3rd and long plays because they weren't able to effectively manage the running game.my thinking is that if the running game struggles then you'll see the shockey targets. shockey's great but the saints really want to establish the balanced offense and that means getting more from the running game than they did last year.

I did watch almost every saints game last year, and I was also impressed with moore. For whatever reason, they just didnt start him. Henderson is a mystery to me. He drops a lot of passes, but he does have the home run ability Colston lacks. He wasnt drafted by Payton, which works against him. My gut feeling is this is his make or break year and he knows it. Will it translate to a good season? lol I'm clueless. He can be had in the last round of most leagues, so he is worth a shot. i just wouldnt start him, even on a bye week, with confidence until he proves himself.

Just curious, is your name also where you're from? Brandon resident here.

We all expected Patten right?

The Saints DID list Lance Moore as the starter opposite Colston here

http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Depth%20Chart.aspx

Now, however, it lists Devery Henderson whom some expected to get cut.

To quell the "don't ya believe me" thoughts

http://www.thetowntalk.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...310/1006/SPORTS

Marques Colston and Lance Moore are listed as the Saints' starters going into the Tampa Bay game.
soooooooo who is it? Thoughts on all this?
I went to depth chart link and Moore is third behind Colston and Patten. Other side has Henderson starting. Nothing to see here. Move along.

the problem is not that there is not a viable WR #2, the problem is knowing which one it is. Patten, Meacham, and even Henderson all have potential in the high flying Saints offense, especially if Deuce can't be productive.

The thing is that all three of them can and may be marginally successful in turns.

IMO after a year to learn the system, and a solid pre season, they probably want to work him into the role (vs. piling on the pressure of naming him #2 @ the start of the season). It may take a few games to work itself out, but I think Meacham grabs the #2 role sooner than later and has a nice season. Something like Bowe's #s last year - around 850 and 6. Henderson drops too many easy balls, then scores on a 60 yd. bomb. No consistency. Patten is a decent WR, but better suited for the slot. Moore? meh.The problem (outlined here) is targets w/ Bush in line for 70+ out of the backfield and Shockey in NO now. I just think this will be a case where the talent rises to the top, and Meacham should be that guy. Worst case you sit on the guy (like I am in a couple leagues) if your rosters are deep enough and see how this unfolds. There should be enough to go around as long as Brees and NO don't start the season like they did last year.

Given the pursuit of Shockey by Payton, the way he used Shockey as a rookie(?), and the fact that Shockey's catches could easily reduce Bush's I wouldn't be surprised at all if Shockey has more recs than Bush at the end of the year. I think the Saints brought him in with a very clear idea of how they want to use him. And if Brees flings it around like he did last year (don't think he will, but...) I can see Shockey putting up Top 3/4 TE #s.

thoughts on Moore?
I agree with the slot receiver characterization, good quicks and a gamer - I would favorably compare him to Bobby Wade. They ran him on some deep routes in the preseason, so he could do more, especially if injuries strike. I have to say the Saints have done an excellent job putting together a set of WRs with complimentary skills for Brees.
