Saints @ Cardinals Tonight ESPN (1 Viewer)

I'm looking forward to this one much more than that Colts/Redskins game.

For one, obviously, we want to see what Leinart looks like.

I'm looking forward to seeing Doucet mostly on the Cardinals side, as well as Hightower.

On the Saints side, mostly the receivers, and most notably Robert Meachem.

I am hoping that P Thomas looks good so that Deuce will continue to drop lower and lower. Saints WRs are definitely on the radar as Colston and Shockey did not make the trip. Aarington, 7th round rookie has had a solid camp. Also interesting kicker battle for the Saints.

Lienart, Doucet, and Hightower for the Cardinals.

Doucet's not playing, pulled his hamstring. Boldin not suiting up either.Saints will be missing Colston, Mcallister, Shockey, Henderson and several starters from defense too.

Vilma at MLB

Rodgers-Cromartie at CB

The legendary Tim Hightower

Early Doucet

Steve Breaston

Saint skill position backups. Meacham, Arrington, etc.

boldin and doucet aren't playing. there is a chance they dont play warner at all due to the fact that the coachin staff knows what he can do and he doesnt need to prove anything. from what i have read, the cardinals want their starters in for 15-20 plays. just a few days ago, leinart made a big emphasis on gettin enough playin time this year in pre-season games to get a good rythm goin so i wouldnt be surprised to see him get plenty of reps.

Seems if the starters only get 15-20 plays, I can't imagine Leinart staying in longer than that.

Never have I anticipated a Saints / Cards game, let alone in August, as much as now.

Cards:

QB activity in AZ.
Hightower.
WR3 situation (Likely Breaston, as Early Doucet is out IIRC).
TE usage.
LB corps.

Saints:

Pierre. Pierre. PIERRE!!!!
Little Deuce.
WR2 situation.
Vilma.
Kicker battle.

yeah your right. i guess that came out wrong. but i do expect to see leinart get a decent amount of playin time throughout pre-season. they cant continue to do QB carousel all year if leinart struggles a little. warner might be the better qb right now, but they invested alot into leinart and cant keep just benchin him.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that Vilma will not be playing. Can not remember where I read it.

I'm looking for P. Thomas and the backup RB situation for ARZ.

Read earlier today that Warner may not play at all. They want to give Leinart plenty of PT, and don't want to get Warner killed behind the 2nd string O-line.

As mentioned upthread, Edge usually plays very sparingly in the preseason. I wouldn't expect him to see many carries tonight. Expect to see a heavy dose of both Hightower and Arrington.

Interested to see how the O-line is looking. Supposedly looking very good, much better than last year, but they've had many many injuries at center.

Saints to rest at least 9 regulars vs. Cardinals
ACKSON, Miss. - Receiver Marques Colston, linebacker Jonathan Vilma, safety Josh Bullocks and defensive tackle Brian Young will sit out New Orleans' preseason opener in Arizona, Saints head coach Sean Payton said Tuesday.

That brings the number of Saints regulars sitting out Thursday night's nationally televised game to nine.

Payton had said earlier that he might rest Colston, who has soreness in his left knee which has limited him during training camp. Payton said Colston could play with the pain but there was no need for him to push through it in an exhibition game.

The Saints also have an interest in seeing more from players competing for remaining receiving jobs, including 2007 first-round draft choice Robert Meachem, rookie Adrian Arrington, and veterans David Patten, Lance Moore and Terrance Copper.

Vilma, who missed much of last season because of a right knee injury that required reconstructive surgery, has been practicing off and on and was not expected to play in the opening preseason game.

Bullocks practiced on Tuesday, but has been resting intermittently during camp as he recovers from offseason arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Young has mild arthritis in his left knee, causing it to flare up when overworked. He has practiced some in training camp but has rested during the past few days.

On Monday, Payton said he would sit out several other projected regulars who have been limited in practice as they attempt to come back from injuries, including running back Deuce McAllister, tight end Jeremy Shockey and cornerback Mike McKenzie.

Rookie cornerback Tracy Porter and receiver Devery Henderson, who both recently went out with pulled hamstrings, also won't play.

The Cards have no line depth and Whisenhunt doesn't want to risk getting Warner injured. Their backup Ts have been with the team a week or less and their backup C is starting. He's starting Leinart over Warner because Leinart hasn't played in such a long time.Worth noting though he said this was the likely scenario but some linemen said they expect to play longer so...

For deeper leagues I'm interested in the backup TE. Shockey tends to get banged up and I think the TE could have some value on this team, so his backup is someone to target late in a bigger league.

Edit to Add: Was talking about the Saints, but I've heard great things about Ben Patrick on the Cards as well.

Rod Hood may be out for the Cards, so we may see a little more DRC!

Injury update: G Carlton Medder (fractured left elbow), out at least four weeks. C Al Johnson (knee) is out. WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) and WR Early Doucet (hamstring) will miss the first preseason game. FB Dionte Johnson (high ankle sprain) is out. LB Monty Beisel (back) and NT Gabe Watson (knee) are on the physically unable to perform list.
Guys on my watch list1. WR Lance Long- Supposedly hasn't dropped a pass yet, and makes at least one attention grabbing play per day.2. OT Brandon Keith- 6'5" 343 7th rounder, highly Oklahoma recruit ended up at Northern Iowa. Speculation is that he may be a starter before the end of the year, possibly RG.3. RB Tim Hightower- Can't possibly live up to the hype....or can he?4. DL Calais Campbell- Has really come on as of late, they are moving him all over to try and get him playing time.5. TE Ben Pattrick- May be overtaking Leonard Pope6. DRC Baby- Playmaker's first day out with the big boys, I'm thinking he gets burned at least once, but shows us why he's a 1st rounder on another.7. S Antrele Rolle- May get a chance to return punts

:lmao: WINNER

please let us know if Adrian Wilson is back to his old playmaking self, or if he's running around out there like a chicken with it's head cut off like he was last season

:thumbup:This game will be nothing more than a tease - I don't really start looking for preseason to tell me anything until after the first cuts - that's when the players realize it is really getting close to the season.

Billy Miller?Don't get too psyched about the Saints b/u TE.

With no Colston and Shockey, however, I am real interested to see the other wideouts get some work.

ADRIAN ARRINGTON

I did a Google news search on him last night and read some very positive blurbs about him. I have him on a ton of my dynasty teams, so I'm eager to see how he looks out there against real competition.

Saints Training Camp Day 12I have been hearing good things too, but this video 1/4 down the page has slowed my enthusiasm a bit. Just one day, one opinion, but good to know.

"not consistent" "not overwhelming" "not living up to hype"

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out later. I heard he might be getting tired legs due to all the intense practicing. Everything I read in the first few weeks was extremely positive though.

Bush dancing to much.
No, he's not. Almost every single time he touched the ball in that drive he had a guy in his face immediately. The Saints just don't run block very good. I'm not the biggest Bush fan but he was having to make a 2nd and 3rd effort just to get 3 yards.

I'm patiently waiting for P Thomas to get some carries...
The ironic thing is, here's a guy that Rashard Mendenhall couldn't beat out for the starting position at Illinois, yet goes undrafted. Then we have Mendenhall projected to be a top back in the draft the following year. Go figure?I'm sure it's not the first time, but it's still baffling.

Bush takes the handoff, has a guy totally unblocked right in his face, spins out of his tackle, beats another guy to the outside and runs through the guy's dive at his legs to pick up 15 yds. Called back for holding. Lol. Either hold the guy or let him through virtually unblocked, not both.

Interesting stat on Bush that they mentioned here. Bush averaged 3.7ypc last year, but 4.4ypc between the tackles.

That is pretty surprising, I wonder how much 'better' he would be if he'd just try to run north-south instead of dancing or constantly trying to bounce it outside...

Saints offensive line looks like it's still one of the worst in the NFL.
For run blocking? yes, pass blocking, looks fine to me.Nice run right there for Reggie, will be brought back.
Yes, sorry, I should have clarified (I've been saying it for like 2 years and sometimes forget to include it). One of the worst run blocking units in the league.Pass blocking is mediocre, and looks slightly better because Brees gets rid of the ball quickly.Another 18 yard run called back for holding.
