Saints hosting FS Ken Hamlin and LB Brian Simmons today (1 Viewer)

Hamlin better remember who let him keep his salary when he got knocked out for the year in a fight in whicch he swung first!

He does need some discipline though. He seems to be going for big hits over good coverage and that burned him a few times. And he's into the extra hit, the extra roughing, which will eventually start getting him into trouble. But he's a good safety and I would rather keep him in our backfield.

Word is that Chris Draft will also make a visit in a few days. Also other guys I would like to at least contact is D. Edwards, and K. Mitchel.

If J. Vilma is up for trade, I would think the Saints would be all over it, I would give up a first and another pick to have him.

the saints should enjoy a serious elevation in stature among NFL teams compared to just this time last year... they have legit super bowl aspirations... they could be a few players away on defense (between FA & draft) from being a scary overall team...

A lot of the times, Hamlin would lay his shoulder into a ball carrier and try for a big hit, and the ball carrier would bounce right off him for a longer gain. This happened numerous times last year and it was frustrating to watch. One would think he would have learned you need to just wrap up a tackler, especially at this point in his career. He would be a way better safety if he did this.

Can someone answer me this? Why did Bullocks get all the playing time over Harper most of the year? I hardly heard Harpers name mentioned at all after september.

Harper tore his ACL in early October against the Bucs.

Yea Simmons and the saints reached a deal. Numbers undisclosed as of right now. Good aquisition for the saints, assuming they didnt overpay. I doubt they did

if the price isn't too steep then this simmons signing is pretty great. we finally have quality depth at the position. i wouldn't mind them re-signing clark either, just to round out the position. i am convinced that CB will be the priority in the draft.

Yea i would think so too, probably corner in the first round...only other position I can think of us goin for would be free safety...who knows though. If payton sees a wide reciever he thinks would compliment Henderson and Colston we could see that happen. I would love to see us pick up a decent free safety in free agency, and maybe even another corner.

i think that adding another young WR to the mix might be problematic. we have a VERY young squad to begin with. let's get some experience in there to help get things done, maybe teach the youngsters something and be there in the more clutch situations. it looks like lake and leisle have shored up DT depth and will backup Thomas/Young. Simmons settles the LB situation somewhat. I would crap myself if they added Donnie Edwards too. So what's left for us to address with potential starters? Ranking in terms of priority, I see CB, OG and TE as the next additions to address.

Word on the message boards is that the Saints will sign a saftey. i think the staff feels Bullocks was the main reason for getting burnt last year. I guess they feel like he did not help Fred Thomas enough in coverage.

I think they should look for upgrades for both positions.

Simmons is a nice upgrade, I just hope they didn't overpay. There are much better players they could have overpaid for out on the market.

Saints sign TE Eric Johson to a one year deal worth 2 million.
nice signing but a little pricey for a guy with a history of injuries. he had better contribute to earn that kind of scratch. i like the signing though. he's very capable as a receiver. he's not afraid of contact. he ought to provide a sure outlet for brees.i like how we have been active during FA. good acquisitions and re-signings. this let's us have some flexibility in the draft.

 Re-signings and keeping team continuity is a big key for me. I think Johnson showed promise last year and coud be big. The one year deal tells me if Olsen drops to us we may take him. Or look at Zach Miller if he is there in the 2nd.

The Saints are looking to deal for DJax as well. IMO this would be a big signing. It would give us a vet with playoff experience to help the young WRs we have. I would be willing to give up a 3rd for him.

He is only 29, about the same age Horn came and started producing for this team.

this is my thinking too. i would prefer we go after one of the TE's at R2 because we need a difference maker on the defensive side.

Hamlin in Dallas for a visit. DAL needs a safety, this would fit if they don't think they can get one in the draft.
