Sammis Reyes, Washington TE (1 Viewer)

Ha, cool. Probably nothing, but could be someone to file away for a year or 2 from now.

This reminds me of that WR from Germany the Vikings picked late a couple years ago. Moritz something?

TE Sammis Reyes' one-year deal with the Washington Football Team includes $392,600 in guaranteed money.

Reyes got a $20,000 signing bonus in the deal. Reyes, from Chile, was one of 11 players chosen for the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. The Football Team signed him Monday, and his contract includes a considerable guarantee considering Reyes has never played organized football. The 6'6" and 260-pound Reyes, 25, played Division I basketball at Tulane before shifting his focus to football. For now, he's no threat to Logan Thomas as the Football Team's primary pass-catching tight end.

It’s a really small thing, but I like how Sammis is right behind Logan Thomas in line during drills. Remember Pete Hoener sees Thomas as a Top 7 TE, and I think this speaks a little to how Sammis is how eager Sammis is to watch and learn.

Rivera praised Sammis Reyes' commitment over the past month. He's dove in head first and works very hard at it. He follows Logan everywhere he goes, Rivera said. He gets it, and it's been fun to watch.

These guys have to know they're just props to appeal to the international audience, right?

Mike Zimmer said a similar thing about the German wr they drafted five years ago,

""That's kind of what the draft is all about -- making dreams come true," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. "He's a really smart kid ... he understands football and is able to repeat the different routes to us and things like that. Obviously, he has a lot of work to do, but it's been fun.""

It costs a little over $100k to run a 30 second commercial nationally. $400k is nothing.
It's the equivalent to the guaranteed money given to 4th/5th round picks. This is similarly as much nothing as Michael Carter and Amon Ra-St. Brown, written with (some?) hyperbole.

If you are in a league where you can keep a player for the future, this guy may make some noise down the line.  Maybe not full proof, but ceiling could be pretty high...

Yes, I think the international appeal is a real thing, but there may be something here...he's a work in progress re: catching securely but his athleticism is off the charts and Rivera has said without irony that he may be the most physical blocker of all the WFT tight ends (which also is a slight jab to the other TEs to pick it up)...

From local beat reporting, it sounds like if Reyes plays at all it'll be mostly for his blocking skills at this point. That may change over time.
